How to tie it: Gurgler style frog, 2020-03-25
Micheal S. gave me a larger version of this frog, and the bass completely destroyed it.
I tinkered with the pattern until I could get the tying down to less than 5 minutes, and here is the result:
Hook: Size 6 Mustad 3366A
Thread: 240 denier thread to match under-body
Over-body: 3mm closed cell foam cut to 1/2″ wide
Legs: Flat rubber legs, 4 strand wide, and 1 strand
Under-body: Chenille, yarn, etc.
Eyes: 4mm dolls eyes
Glue: Craft glue or CA
Markers for finishing touches.
The object of this series is to show some ideas, and cost savings, when making popper heads. None of the products mentioned are the absolute “best” to buy, or use, but mentioned to only give you some ideas.
A former member of the club, before he moved away, Crawford P. invited us up to fish during the week, so I passed the word out to those folks I thought could go. He could handle at max 5 people, so I tried to target anglers that had kayaks, and could fish mid-week.
John E. and I had made this trip January 2nd and 3rd, and caught a few fish in the generation canal. The target species for this groups was supposed to be white bass.
The Jan 10-11 outing was postponed due to inclimate weather. LCRA has given us a “credit” to move the reservation to a later date. I am looking at dates near the end of Feb or mid-March.
Glen Wells and I took a chance and showed up at the Northshore Boat Launch on Fri, Jan 10. (Glen spent the night on Thurs at the campsite). We were hoping the “weatherman” got it wrong, at least for the morning. Not to be. White caps on the lake at 730am, and just got worse as time went on. We made a wise choice and drank coffee and left. The LCRA campsite and tents/cots are nice; well set up, lots of room, and a nice Bbq and fire pit area. Also, easy access to the lake from the campsite; able to leave kayaks in the water near the tents. Will definitely reschedule this outing.
Buescher State Park: I took the opportunity to stop on the way home at Buescher State Park and bank fished for a couple hours. I didn’t put my kayak in the lake, and was only able fish one small area near the “boat ramp”. I managed to pull out a small bass on a clouser. This lake may be worth a week day trip….small lake but very protected from the wind. Easy kayak access.

(#80, #81, #82) LCRA “canvas” tents and cots are available for 12 people (6 tents, 12 cots). We will meet at 6:30 am Fri and Sat at the Northshore boat dock. Pot luck Friday night. (Bring a side dish) Breakfast Sat morning on your own.
