Lake Bastrop Trip Report: Sept 27-29

IMG_1499

The Lake Bastrop weekend trip was a huge success.  We had ten people fishing Friday morning, six on Saturday, and two on Sunday.  A variety of trailer dwellers, tent campers, and day trippers.  Food was excellent, as expected.  Shrimp jambalaya, dutch oven baked chicken, brownies, cookies, pie…..needless to say no one went hunger.

The Texas weather treated us to a variety of sun, rain, and wind.  Saving grace was the bugs stayed home.  The trailer a/c provided welcome relief both in the middle of the day as well as nighttime dinner refuge.

Fishing was good in the mornings from sunrise to about 9:30am…then fish went into lockjaw.  Topwater seemed to be the favorite.  A good kayak fishing lake.

Given this is a warm water power plant lake, we will make another trip in Jan-March to “test the waters” that time of year.  Enjoy the pics:

Chandeleur Islands – May 12-15, 2019 Trip Report out

Report Out:  Twelve of us drove from Houston to Pass Christian, Mississippi to join DMJ Charters on their ship “Backdraft”.  The weather cooperated for us…windy the first day, then good after that.  We had a combination of conventional and fly fisherman, both from boats and wading.  We landed reds, specs, and jacks.  The food and accommodations were outstanding.  Pics tell only part of the story:

Report out: Lake Raven – Huntsville St Park, Fri, May 3, 2019

TRIP REPORT: A great morning.  Four kayakers arrived at 630am, as planned, and were in the water fishing by ~715am.  Fishing was good, with 13 largemouth bass and over 50 perch caught on top water (VIP poppers and spiders).  Five (5) of the lmb were 3+lbs…nice fish.  Beautiful lake, only a couple other kayaks and one boat. Even had a couple alligator sightings, but no issues.

We got pushed off the water by weather at about 11am….rain started with some thunder in the distance.  Made a good decision and packed up.  But the morning was worth it.

The lake and campground are very nice.  Easy drive from Hou, very nice boat ramp, lots of parking and camping.  A really good weekday trip….never been there on the weekend so hard to comment, but I suspect it gets a little more traffic…..We WILL do it again.  See pictures below:

CANCELLED: Matagorda Bay – 3 Mile Lake area (June 15, 2019)

Event: East Matagorda Bay – 3 Mile Lake area

TRIP CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER

Trip Description: Kayak fishing for redfish, speckled trout, and sheephead. If you do not have a kayak, wading in the lakes can be very productive at times. 4X4’s are usually a must for beach driving and crossing into the cut. Once you get off the beach past the dunes, driving is usually okay. A permit is required for beach driving and you can get one at Stanley’s for about 10 or 12 bucks.

If you don’t have a 4×4 truck, but would like to attend with either a kayak or wade fishing, contact John Eldred prior to the trip, and we may be able to work out a solution.

When:  June 15, 2019
