About the area: San Marcos River
The analysis has found the San Marcos River to be one of the most popular recreational rivers in Texas. The river rises at Aquarena Springs within the city limits of San Marcos, flowing approximately 75 miles through heavily wooded banks to join the Guadalupe River. A wide variety of water types, including a few rapids, many small riffles and an abundance of clear, quiet pools are present. Average width of the stream is 30 feet; however, it narrows between steep banks in its lower reaches. In periods of low water, numerous log jams are found, especially downriver.

4th Annual Clark Thornton Memorial San Marcos River Trip May 2018- The 4th Annual Clark Thornton Memorial San Marcos River Trip will be on May 19, 2018. As in the past, this trip we will tag along with Texas Hill Country guide, Kevin Hutchison. Kevin can answer any questions you have regarding your morning fishing, so you are well prepared for the afternoons fishing. We will be fishing mainly for bass and brim. The San Marcos is a spring fed river which gives the water a clarity that makes it one of the nicest rivers in Texas. For those who want to come out the night before, we will reserve a camp site at the Shady Grove campground, 9515 FM 1979, Martindale, TX. 78655. If you are in need of a kayak or just camping out for the night, you must make arrangements with Pat prior to arrival. Their phone number is (512) 357-6113.
