Texas FlyFishers of Houston Event:  Kayak/Canoe/Motorized Boat – Lake Bastrop (Bastrop, Texas)

Trip Description:  Fish Lake Bastrop in the winter;  Fri/Sat, Jan 10-11.  Kayak, canoe, or motorized boat.  Three tent campsites have been reserved for Friday, Jan 10th. (#80, #81, #82)   LCRA “canvas” tents and cots are available for 12 people (6 tents, 12 cots).  We will meet at 6:30 am Fri and Sat at the Northshore boat dock.  Pot luck Friday night.  (Bring a side dish)  Breakfast Sat morning on your own.

TRIP REPORT: A great morning.  Four kayakers arrived at 630am, as planned, and were in the water fishing by ~715am.  Fishing was good, with 13 largemouth bass and over 50 perch caught on top water (VIP poppers and spiders).  Five (5) of the lmb were 3+lbs…nice fish.  Beautiful lake, only a couple other kayaks and one boat. Even had a couple alligator sightings, but no issues.

We got pushed off the water by weather at about 11am….rain started with some thunder in the distance.  Made a good decision and packed up.  But the morning was worth it.

The lake and campground are very nice.  Easy drive from Hou, very nice boat ramp, lots of parking and camping.  A really good weekday trip….never been there on the weekend so hard to comment, but I suspect it gets a little more traffic…..We WILL do it again.  See pictures below:
