Pure Joy – Casting a rod you made with a fly you made…

Joe Nicklo and George Sutherland led two rod building classes over the past several months, with much appreciated help from Bobby Orr, Paul Robertson and Joe Flowers as proctors. The first class with nine members was conducted at Bayland Community Center in February. The second class with seven members was conducted at Gordy and Sons in March. Both were two day classes.

The participants not only had fun building a rod to their unique color and preferences, but are now able to enjoy casting with it for years to come. In the fly fishing world, it probably can’t get much better than that – joy of casting a fly you made with a rod you made! No doubt the signup sheet for the next class should be in “overflow” once again!

2018 Lydia Ann Fly Masters Tournament

From Steve E.

“I spent this last weekend working at a fly fishing retreat put on by Reel Recovery and Project Healing Waters for vets with cancer near San Antonio.  I got to know some of the guys from the Alamo Fly Fishers club.  Great bunch of guys.  They have a fishing tournament that they are sponsoring down at Port Aransas on October 27.  We need to add it to our website  and promote it to our club for the saltwater fisherman looking for a late October outing.  I attached the link. http://www.lydiaannflymasters.com. I’m also ccing Nick Scarpinato.  He is the President of the Alamo Fly Fishers in case you want more info.

Cheers,

Steve”
