2018 Lydia Ann Fly Masters Tournament

From Steve E.

“I spent this last weekend working at a fly fishing retreat put on by Reel Recovery and Project Healing Waters for vets with cancer near San Antonio.  I got to know some of the guys from the Alamo Fly Fishers club.  Great bunch of guys.  They have a fishing tournament that they are sponsoring down at Port Aransas on October 27.  We need to add it to our website  and promote it to our club for the saltwater fisherman looking for a late October outing.  I attached the link. http://www.lydiaannflymasters.com. I’m also ccing Nick Scarpinato.  He is the President of the Alamo Fly Fishers in case you want more info.

2018 TOURNAMENT  DATE: October 27, 2018

The organization of the tournament was originally comprised of a partnership between Alamo Fly Fishers, Inc. and Palmer Simpson

  • to create the PREMIER annual Fly Fishing and Catch and Release Tournament for the Texas Coast,
  • and to donate EVERY DOLLAR possible to the chosen beneficiary for that particular year.

The purpose of the LYDIA ANN FLY MASTERS tournament is to bring Fly Fishing anglers from all over the State of Texas, as well as other States, to compete for prizes, share in the enjoyment of fishing the flats, and have a good time; all the while never losing focus of the main reason for being there – to help support a wonderful charitable organization.

The Tournament Beneficiary is CASTING FOR RECOVERY. To date, the tournament has raised more than $39,000 for this wonderful organization.  Please visit the “About CfR” page to learn more about their cause, and to make additional on-line donations.

Aransas Pass was chosen as the center for the tournament due to its mostly equidistant location to Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. It is also close to the heart of the flats that many of us love to fly fish.

The tournament is open to both Boating Anglers and Kayaking Anglers with separate divisions for each. Redfish on the fly and Catch and Release are the objectives, but there are also “Open Species” divisions for both the Boaters and Kayakers just to make things interesting.

For a more complete description of the Tournament Format and Rules please visit the “Rules & Format” page within the website for a downloadable version. A downloadable Application is also available on the “Application & Info” page. We are striving to make the tournament as attractive as we can to all anglers by having separate divisions for the Boaters and Kayakers.

We are working with numerous Sponsors to offer quality prizes for the top finishing anglers, as well as Raffle and Silent Auction Items. We encourage everyone that participates in the tournament or visits this site to support these fine and generous Sponsors.
