4 people made the trip to Garcitas Creek, the January 2018 outing. A quick check of the water and it was found to be too fresh, so the group moved 5 miles to the Lavaca River boat launch.
Garcitas Creek, January 2018 outing, it is happening
The day started out cool and fishless, but heated up, both temperature and the bite as the day progressed.
Small flies worked better on these winter specks.
Here is what our participants had to say with pictures below.
“Fish Lavaca River yesterday. Between four fly fisherman from Houston Fly Fisher Club, we caught a least 50 trout all on flies.. What a Blast. !!”

“4 of us: Howard, don h & mike q
2 boats
Fog made driving to outing tuff.
Met gracitas creek & moved 5 miles to lavaca river to launch.
Water temp 47f at start & 52f at end.
Started with jackets & ended with shirts.
Winds 0-5 mph.
40+ trout caught with largest 19” & avg 13”
All caught fish with Mike & Don the most successful.
#4 bead chain Clouser in chartreuse was effective. Larger baitfish patterns were not. 2 used sinking lines & 2 floating lines; both were effective.
I’ll send a few pictures after I download them

“Just to add to Scott’s report. We caught most of our fish in 5 to 7 feet of water. We used large lead eyed black clousers about 1/0. Done H slayed them using floating line w/ 9’ leader. Great time!
