Lunch and water will not be provided. Participants should bring their own food, water, sun glasses and PFD (Personal Floatation Device).

We are currently in planning mode for the 2025 Round-Up and are looking for a few volunteers with ZTR lawn mowers to regularly mow a couple of casting areas and a parking zone in preparation for the Festival (occurring on Saturday, October 18th). The fields have been shredded, prepped and ready for regular mowing in order to keep the lawn in great casting and parking conditions. [UPDATED 7-4-25] I think I may have a window for everyone. It could very well be “go” time for us to hit the water! There is a huge window starting over the upcoming weekend but the best day looks to be on Wednesday. As of now, I am going to have this outing on Wednesday, July 9th. My apologies on placing this on a weekday but in years past, I have found that most of the windows fall on a weekday with the hopes of it being on a weekend. I have had people wait several years for this to go off on a weekend and they never get out. My advice will be to see what happens with my last post on Sunday to confirm this date and try and get out to fish if the date intended works out. If it’s your first time to go btb, you will have a great time. Get your gear ready because it’s about to get real!!

Hello to all my fellow kayaking friends. Just like last summer, 2024, I wanted to do something for this summer 2025 in regards to BTB (Beyond the Breakers) kayak fishing for new people (of course intermediate and advanced kayakers are welcomed as well). Several years ago, I put together a BTB trip for anyone that wanted to get out to do BTB at Surfside, this included kayakers of all levels. It was awesome! We had a total of 34 kayakers that made it out that day. Many just went to the buoys while others went to the 5-mile rig. It was cool to see that many yaks out on the water. Some of the people that fished off the jetty’s at Surfside thought that there was a kayak tournament going on with that many kayaks launching, lol. The following year I ran another one of these outings except it was run out of Corpus Christi instead of Surfside. We had many more show up than the previous year. This trip was a huge success! I believe all the new kayakers caught kings that day and I would say around 70% of the new kayakers limited out on kings. On top of it all, some of the new kayakers caught cobia. What an amazing day on the water it was!! As each year has gone by, this outing has become larger and larger. This has turned out to be a great way for new kayakers to learn how to go BTB and hopefully to catch some fish while out there on the water.
Sight fishing 40+” Northern pike, great weather, top of the line food/accommodations, and an outstanding fishing group. Life doesn’t get much better than that.
Four of us from various parts of the world (Toronto, Salt Lake City, Broomfield Col, Pearland Tx) made the trip to Cree River Lodge. The trip started with us all meeting in Edmonton for an overnight stopover. The adventure began the next day with a 4am wake up to meet the 530am, 2hr charter flight to Stony Rapids. There we boarded a turbo prop otter on floats for a 30min flight to the lodge. Arriving at the lodge at 8am, we were greeted with breakfast, a quick unpack, and off to fishing. Typical days consisted of 630am coffee, 7am breakfast, 8am boat departure, shore lunch at noon, and back to the lodge by 5pm. Full days.
Can’t say enough good things about the lodge, accommodation, food, staff….all top tier. We had two people per cabin….the cabins consisting of two rooms and a bathroom….quite comfortable. The lodge was “Starlink” connected for those needing to “stay in touch”. Dinner was pike, walleye, pork, steak and all the trimmings; shore lunches were freshly caught fish…..Needless to say no one left losing weight. Owners Pat and Lori were perfect hosts….outgoing, friendly, and “on top” of all the things necessary to run a remote lodge.

Last week, I had the privilege of spending 4 nights and 3 days in the Minnesota Driftless Region attending a faith-based fly-fishing retreat conducted by ALTAR Fly Fishing in cooperation with Fly Fishers at the Crossing. ALTAR is a non-profit that conducts multiple fly-fishing retreats each year all across the United States. Their focus is the mental, physical, and spiritual renewal for individuals, clergy, and business leaders through Bible study and fly fishing. Fly Fishers at the Crossing (FATC) is a large, faith-based fly-fishing club headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. I have been to several ALTAR retreats and have been a member of FATC for a little less than 2 years. A finer bunch of Christian fly fishers could not have been found!
