Cancelled: SW Outing: DEEP WATER – Redfish, 2026-01-17

DEEP WATER

We going to fish Deep Water Redfish on Jan 17 , 2026!  We are going to fish an area; rather it be a river or Intercoastal canal for redfish in 6 to 20 ft of water, its a day trip

We are using intermediate to full sinking line due to water depth, you Muskie guys know all about that technology, so let us here from you!!  Safety is everything, you need to be be ready COLD water 50’s

I am working with the team to try to pick an area where we can have both kayaks and boats. we are looking at a number of places ,  HARBOR WALK IC , San Bernard River ,Colorado River and Anahuac /Trinity

This is all dependent on WEATHER, the best time is right after a Cold front, so you got to be flexible

From the generous donors who shared their time, talent, and energy, to the enthusiastic bidders who kept the excitement going, and of course to our winners who walked away with the items they had their eye on—you all played a vital role in creating a fantastic event.

Our next step is item distribution, and we’d love to celebrate this together at our Christmas meeting on December 9 at The Pit Room.

We understand that schedules get especially tight this time of year. If you’re unable to join us at the meeting, we’re happy to arrange alternate pickup plans. With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, timely coordination will be key, so please reach out early if you need an alternative option.

Report: Fence Lake Trip

Apologies for the late trip report! The club trip to Fence Lake took place on July 26th. After delaying the start due to weather concerns, ten anglers and kayaks boarded the Skimmer over to Fence Lake, and were unloaded and fishing before 9am. Early morning wind was low and with good, clear water, the biggest issue in the lake was the high grass. However all anglers found fish, including lots of tailing drum, and reds in pods and singles. Reds were either spooky, or feeding hard, and the drum continued tailing all day, but with the thick weed, flies needed to be placed under their noses to hook up. With the warm water we also saw a few “sleepy reds” that were laid up with their faces buried in the weed. All anglers caught fish, and all made it back. Thanks to Phil and Pam Stranahan for hosting us for dinner that evening!

The Texas Fly Fishers will present its 16th Annual Summer Mini Fly Fishing Exposition, Saturday, August 23, 2025, 8:30 am until 4:30 pm which will include fly fishing related topics of interest to most every fly fisher be they beginner, intermediate or expert!

History of the Annual Summer Mini Expo

Most Texas FlyFisher’s monthly meetings were playing to a full house; every month with the exception August. For some reason, the August meeting was drawing less than half of the audience of the other 10 months. So, in 2009, then Club President David Lemke came up with a plan to pick up the August monthly meeting attendance. David’s idea was, instead of holding a typical meeting with a guest speaker, to hold a mini expo featuring the club membership’s talent at fly tying, rod building, knot tying / leader building, casting and fly fishing destination travel and to do so in an exposition format.
