Reminder, FW Outing: John Scarborough Sunfish Spectacular, 9th and 10th of May 2025

Once again it is time to put this great event onto your calendar. And it is on Mother’s Day Weekend, so…

For this year’s event we have a special deal for Mom’s attending the event (who are current members of Texas FlyFishers): Bring your kid / kids and get in free! OK, bring your grand kids, and the same applies. We still request that everyone check-in at registration desk and leave your waiver form(s) before fishing.

Reminder # 3: Harmon Creek Outing 7-9 March, 2025, change in date.

The date has been changed due to weather and water conditions. TFF has rented all of the lodging on site. As I type this [2025-02-20-1930] there are 2 open spot (beds) and plenty of camping available.

A small group went out onto the creek on President’s day, along with a gang from PACK. When we arrived there was frost all over the ground, and the air temperature was 28°F. Water clarity at the launch was about 4″. Up past BB area the water started clearing up. The average catch was about 20/fish/angler. Most were small males, but there were a few females in the mix. This indicates that the run wasn’t in full swing yet.

FW Outing: Preparing for D7Ls event, 3rd of May 2025

This is in preparation for the event the following weekend, the John Scarborough Sunfish Spectacular, on the 10th of May 2025. A small group of us will meet the Saturday prior, tools in hand and work on cleaning up the shorelines, and the gathering areas. You will need to bring your own tools, saws, clippers, weed whackers, work gloves etc.

When we get finished, between 2-4 hours, depending on how many we have help out, we will fish for the rest of the day.

Sign up for a great opportunity to help prepare for the family event, and get some fishing in.

“Puck” will lead. Sign up below.

FW Outing: John Scarborough Sunfish Spectacular, 9th and 10th of May 2025

The trip report is written and available for viewing. See this link.

Trip Description:

Join us for our 22nd annual fun family fishing event and lunch on Saturday, May 10th, at Damon’s Seven Lakes (D7L). If you want to camp you may come after 3 pm on Friday, May 9th. Fishing is mostly from the shore, but kickboat, canoe, and/or kayaking are quite successful. Members are encouraged to bring guests. These guests are how we spread the word, and it is always good to have friends on the water. To learn more about how the Texas Flyfishers of Houston (TFF) Club’s John Scarborough Sunfish Spectacular (JSSFS) event came about, please click this link for a video of Puck giving the explanation.

OUTING: John Scarborough Sunfish Spectacular, 10th of May, 2025 (planning stages, help me with editing)

This is THE family friendly event of the year!

Join us for our annual fun family fishing event and lunch on Saturday, (confirm date), at Damon Seven Lakes. If you’re lucky, you can earn the chance to capture the John Scarborough Sunfish Spectacular Trophy!

Fishing from the shore, but kickboat, canoe, and/or kayak are quite successful.

Contrary to the name there are now nine different, unique lakes of good size that hold largemouth bass, tiger bass, catfish, black crappie, and bluegill. Catching bass in the three to five pound range is a normal occurrence. Twelve pound bass, decent channel cats, and twelve inch bream have been caught in the last four years.

FW Outing: 2025 South Llano River Float (Thursday through Sunday, April 10-13, 2025.)

The South Llano Trip is just over the horizon. We have only a small number of members signed up at this time. The Club has to pay for 2 cabins for 3 nights regardless of how many people come and stay. If married couples come, our host Nol, has offered us (couples) an additional place to stay. This annual Club trip is one of the few opportunities to get out to the Hill Country and to fish one of the most productive rivers in the State. 2023 year’s event was cancelled due to weather, so please consider making your plans ASAP.
