TFF had great weather for campers and fishers for our 2025 JSSFS Event (see event link)! On Friday afternoon and evening (May 9th), we had 5 campers stay the night at D7L, including Grant, Scott F, Ozzy, Oscar, and Puck. Puck said the food was great around the campfire Friday night and Saturday morning… including the coffee. It was a great time to relax and visit.

Cool temperatures with a north northeasterly breeze gave everyone a sigh of relief. On Saturday, May 10th, it was 66 F at 6 am and warmed up to 84 F mid-day. Registration in the warehouse went smoothly, flies were donated to everyone, and by 9:30 am we moved to the picnic area by Martin Lake. A total of 40 adults and 4 minors attended the JSSFS event.

It was a great time to stroll around D7L and fly fish most of the lakes. Several families attended with their children and several parents came with adult children to enjoy a day of fishing together. Flyfishers had best success catching Sunfish, Bass, and Catfish using the Yellow Spider, Bully Spider, Mop Fly, and Brim Busting Bug (BBB).

Fly casting lessons were generously provided by Jim R and Ron M. From beginner to advanced caster, the instructors improved our casting so we could immediately catch D7L fish! The lessons were typically between 20 to 60 minutes long. The volunteer instructors are Fly Fishers International Certified Casting Instructors (FFI CI) and are longtime TFF club members. The D7L owner, Matt A, provided a large, freshly mowed casting lawn for the lessons.

TFF volunteers assisted in many ways including picking up storage bin supplies from TFF’s mini storage unit, purchasing food, cooking our hamburgers & hot dog lunch, and cleaning up. Two TFF member served as First Aid Station volunteers and only one incident was reported: an attendee needed a new bandaid for a paper cut he got earlier. Yay! TFF is vigilant in maintaining safety of all its members and guests.

SUNFISH COMPETITION WINNERS!
The John Scarborough Sunfish Spectacular Award for the adult who caught and documented the longest Sunfish was Eric R who caught a 9.75-inch Sunfish, congratulations!
The Junior JSSFS Award Medal goes to Addison S who caught a 7.25-inch Sunfish, congratulations!
2025 JSSFS Summary
Both awards will be handed out during TFF’s monthly meeting on May 20th to Addison and Eric. At the May 10th JSSFS event, David D showed attendees what they would win if they caught the longest Sunfish.
