Ron Mayfield is putting together another trip to Chetumal Bay – one of the last unexplored bay systems on the Yucatan Peninsula. Chetumal Bay is south of Ascension Bay and Espritu Santo Bay and offers the same type of fly fishing opportunities – grand slams and even super slams in one day (bonefish, tarpon, permit and snook). When we were there last December, we saw only 5 other boats over the 5 days we fished – the fish have very little pressure.
The cost is $450 a day – this is for double occupancy rooms, two people per boat (pangas), and includes breakfast and lunch. That’s right, the villa (hotel) and guide costs are only $450 per day – this is one of the best deals for fly fishing the Yucatan you can find anywhere. We will be staying at Villa Marcela – a new and beautiful villa right on Chetumal Bay and just north of Chetumal in the small city of Candelaria. The villa is right next to the jungle and the wildlife is amazing – we had a flock of wild parrots fly through the villa every morning. Go to https://www.villamarcela.com.mx/ to see pictures of the villa – the beautiful guest rooms, the bar, the large pool and large cabana. The food was amazing and the hospitality even better.
To see the guide service, go to https://www.flyfishingchetumal.com/. Carlos Goyos is one of the best fly fishers and guides in the Yucatan and a member of the legendary Peninsula Flyfishing Club. He employs experienced guides that know the area very well – we were all impressed with them during our trip last December.
If you are interested, please contact Ron Mayfield at southsideflycasting@gmail.com for details. He needs to know by April 15th to guarantee the reservations. There are only 5 slots still open for this trip (8 slots total).
