Have you wanted to explore fly fishing opportunities in West Bay or learn more about targeting redfish and speckled trout along the upper Texas coast? If so, come hear Joe DeForke speak at our upcoming June meeting.

Joe DeForke is a seasoned fly tier and angler based in the Galveston area, where he has spent over forty years fishing the productive waters of West Bay and the surrounding systems. His passion for the sport has taken him beyond the Texas coast, pursuing a range of species in destinations around the world. These experiences have helped shape a well-rounded and practical approach to fly fishing that he brings back home to his local waters.

Over the years, Joe has developed a particular focus on targeting redfish and speckled trout in the Galveston Bay complex. His time on the water has given him an in-depth understanding of seasonal patterns, shallow-water tactics, and the nuances of effectively presenting flies to these popular inshore species. In addition to his time on the water, Joe is an accomplished fly tier, crafting patterns designed specifically for the conditions and fish of the Texas coast.

Now retired, Joe dedicates much of his time to refining his tying, exploring local waters, and sharing his knowledge with fellow anglers. Whether discussing fly selection, presentation techniques, or reading water in West Bay, Joe brings a thoughtful and experience-driven perspective that will benefit anglers of all skill levels.
