Meeting: March, 18, 2025 Meeting, 6pm, Ron Mayfield

Meeting location: Trini Mendenhall Community Center (1414 Wirt Road Houston, Tx.) Time: 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Ron will be discussing and showing highlights from trips to Chetumal Bay.  Chetumal Bay is the largest and least fished bay on the eastern side of the Yucatan peninsula.  He has lead 3 trips to Chetumal Bay and is leading a 4th this next Sept.  He will be covering topics such as fish species, locations, equipment and flies for fly fishing the Chetumal Bay system.

Bio

Ron had been fly fishing and fly tying for over 50 years.  He is a past Director of Fly Tying for the FFI Texas Council and was one of the authors of the FFI Saltwater Fly Tying Manual.  Ron has been a long-time member of the FFI Texas Fly Fishers club in Houston and regularly gives fly tying and fly casting sessions with this club.  He also has given fly tying and fly casting seminars for Reel Recovery, Good Fly, Project Healing Water and FFI Women Connect.  Ron has been featured in Fly Tyer Magazine and several books and articles over the years.  Ron is one of the few people that is both a Fly Designer for Umpqua and an FFI Casting Instructor.  He lives in Pearland, Texas and has fished most all of the Texas coast and bays.
