Volume 11 – Issue 2: Summer Edition 2024

Well it looks like the summer is beginning to take it’s hold on Texas, unless you are riding the storm out on the coast. Hope all are safe and sound down there. Activities usually slow down during the summer, as many travel to cooler destinations, and enjoy trips with their families and friends. We will be doing the same here. The Texas Fly Fishers will be hosting the Redfish Rodeo weekend of fun on the 16th through the 18th of August, with the tournament and most of the activities on the 17th. Please check in with Michael Quigley of the Texas Fly Fishers if you are interested in attending. All of the contact and weekend information is in the newsletter. The club is also hosting their annual mini expo on August the 24th, which is a great event to attend.  Fly Tying, Casting Instruction and Demonstrations, Travel Presentations and Rod Building Exhibitions along with a day which will include drawings for Prizes, at Terrace United Methodist Church, 1203 Wirt Road, Houston, Texas 77055.  8:30 am until 4:30 pm which will include fly fishing related topics of interest to most every fly fisher be they the beginner, intermediate or expert! Keep up the good works, club!!

The ArkLaTexOma Fly Tyers is a group that has recently formed and have been holding  tying events in the East Texas area, and are hosting a Tenkara class led by Keira Quam, on July the 20th. Great to see some new activities there, along with the educational tying activities they are regularly having. Please keep us posted.

Questions have been asked about the re-scheduling of the fair, and of the Casting Matters series. Plans are being discussed, on how that will shape up, and will be communicated with all soon. Past sessions, and quarterly zoom meetings are posted in the newsletter for your review. The casting series has really been a hit, and personally has helped many of us in our casting journey. If you have missed or not seen any of these sessions, they are definitely worth watching and or reviewing!

Please continue to follow us on our Facebook page for all of the updates on events that will be happening this summer, and throughout the rest of the year.

Safe travels,
Texas Council FFI
