The Texas Fly Fishers will be holding a short casting clinic for club members on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Participation will be limited to nine club members and social distancing practices will be followed. Additionally, Federation of Fly Fishers International Certified Instructors will be on hand for the clinic. Details pertaining to the clinic are as follows:
Date: Saturday December 5, 2020
Time/hours: 9 am to approximately 11 am (participants should have their rod assembled and strung up by 9 am so that the clinic can start on time.)
Clinic Topic: The purpose of the clinic will be to learn about casts, mends and other casting techniques which will be helpful when fly fishing the Guadalupe River or other bodies of moving water.
Skill Level: This clinic will be most helpful to beginner and intermediate anglers.
Location: There is a baseball field and City of Houston park located next to Lovett Elementary School 8814 S Rice Ave, Houston, TX 77096 https://www.houstonisd.org/lovett. The school is located on the corner of South Rice and Jason Street. As one faces the school from the Jason Street side, to the immediate right of the school is a large unfenced baseball field and open city park field. This area is on the corner of Jason Street and Pritchett Street. There is parking on the street on both the Pritchett and Jason street sides; although, there is much less traffic on the Pritchett Street side. The terrain of this area is flat and should be easy for participants to navigate.


IMPORTANTLY, PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT THE AREA (LAKES OF MEYERPARK), BEHIND THE WALMART NEAR IH 610 AND SOUTH POST OAK, WHERE PREVIOUS CLUB CASTING EVENTS HAVE BEEN HELD.
** Note: Club loaner rods will be available upon request. Also, an Evite invitation will be sent to club members. If you will be attending the casting clinic and will need to use one of the club rods, when you respond to the Evite invitation please indicate in the comments section of this post that you would like to use one of the club rods.
** Note: Casting will be done with a piece of yarn or other fiber attached to the fly line leaders-no hooks will be used. If you will be participating, please have a piece of yarn or fiber of some sort attached to your leader. If you do not have this type of material available, please arrive early and a piece of yarn or other similar material will be furnished and if necessary attached by one of the instructors.
