Bastrop, 2019-06-15

We weren’t able to fish the salt water due to the weather, so a few of us, John E., Steve, E. and “Puck,” headed up to Bastrop to check out the fishing.

We met at the boat ramp at 0630 and quickly were in the water, making our way across to an area that we’d been told about.

The bonus of this area was that it was upwind of the boat launch, hopefully making it easier to get back once the wind picked up.   And true to form, it did, reaching 20+ before we left the water at 1300.

Between the wind, clouds, and heavy boat traffic, the fishing was tough.  Only 8 fish came to hand, with none of them being very large.  The bottom in most places was hard sand or rock, making it easy to step out of the kayak and wade.

There were about 10 boats already on the  water by the time we launched.  This number climbed dramatically before we made our way back in.  The parking lot was half full by noon, with most of those boats participating in a local fishing tournament.
