Texas Parks and Wildlife sponsors Fly Fish Texas annually at the Texas Freshwaters Fisheries Center in Athens Texas. Club members Harry Crofton, David Lemke and Mark Marmon present workshops there almost every year. Many of the fly casting instructors from around the state teach basic casting lessons to dozens of people during the day. There are two large ponds that are stocked with trout that can be fished all day long.
It’s kind of a long drive (3+ hours), but I have never been disappointed that I made the trip. If you want to be witness of lots new people getting exposed to fly fishing, here’s the event to attend.
