Report: Damon 7 Lakes Outing a Success!

Yesterday’s outing at Damon 7 Lakes was attended by 35 members and guests, and this number was about twice the expected turnout.  It is good for our club to get back in the swing of things after a couple of trying years due to Covid, a change in the meeting venue, and this incredibly hot summer that just finished. A pleasant surprise was the number of new faces who came out to enjoy the beautiful day and the fishing.  We had families with kids, out of state guest, and the some of our members’ that we haven’t seen in a while.

The weather was a little colder and breezier than forecasted, but the wind died down and the sun came out about 10:00 AM to make it an overall fine day. The bite was a little slow, but it is my observation that everybody caught fish that put a line in the water.  Of note, we had a recent new member come out who had never fly fished.  Ron Mayfield stepped up and gave him an hour or so of instruction, and the new member caught 2 bass at the last count.  I think that he is hooked!

On a final note….we put a donation box at the registration table, and our group donated $165 to off set the rental expense of the property.  Thank you for your generosity.

*Thanks to Matt Arnold, Chris Summers, and Ron Mayfield for being the needed helping hands to do an event like this.  Special thanks to Ron for lugging that huge camera around all day and being the photographer as well as casting instructor.  We will be adding pics of the outing over the next couple of days.

  1. Enjoyed the day, even though the catching was not as good as the fishing. Kinda missed having lunch together. Maybe just hot dogs, chips and drinks at an agreed upon time, like 1:00 TILL 2:00. THANKS Ato the folks that made it happen!!

    • Bill. Thanks for attending and for the comments. The next club outing to D7L will be April 13th for the John Scarborough Sunfish Spectacular. Food and drink will be furnished at that outing….and hopefully the fish catching will be a little better, too.
