SW Outing: Lavaca River Specs and Reds, February 21st, 2026 (2026-02-21-0800)

This is the Winter fishing spot, which is depended on weather. Best after a cold front.  Deep water 5 to 15 ft.   sinking fly lines a must

1.5/2  hr. drive from Houston. We have couple TFF members which fish’s this area and will help fishing tips and the trip itself as we get closer.

  1. Lavaca River Fishing Report
    Water was clear green
Northern hit about 8 :45 am wind came up to 10 to 12 maybe a little more = Beautiful day
It cleared up and was 70 plus deg.
It a easy trip down and back – FM 616 boat Ramp was in good shape
My sonar showed fish up and down the water column , with most of the bigger ones on the bottom. the water was any where between 6 to 12 ft , with holes up to 20 ft
“Fly of the Day”- White & chartreuse Clouser , Gold KreeLex and White minnow. , with sink tip and Intermediate lines.

We ended up with 8 member coming down and fishing most of the morning. we have 3 boat and 2 kayak. Very slow and small undersize spec’s
Scott Fossum caught 7 specs all 14in
Glen, Puck & Vitali caught 3 or 4 specs, I don’t know if they were keeper
    Michael & Gary = ?
Darby & Ben 1 spec and Redfish
Very beautiful river up stream from the bridge , we went a couple mile up the West fork.
Ben & I took off to explorer Redfish Bay and pole the Lee side /north side and came away with one nice slot Red.

When we do it next year ,let go in January! Plus you need to be able to anchor your vessel.
