TUESDAY October 26, 2021-Mendenhall Community Center; MONTHLY SPEAKER: Taylor Guest (TFF Saltwater Outings Chair)

Our next in person meeting of the Texas Fly Fishers is Tuesday October 26 @ 7:00 pm. Doors are open ~6:30 pm for fellowship and swapping fish stories.

This month we are glad to welcome Taylor Guest our Saltwater Outings Chair. Taylor’s will focus on skinny water redfish on the upper coast. The upper coast, specifically Port Author to Freeport, is not traditionally considered a premier destination for fly fishing for skinny water reds. This is largely due to the soft mud substrate making it difficult to effectively pole a skiff. If you’re up to the challenge and know where to go, sight casting for swampy reds can be some of the most exciting and rewarding redfishing available. If you’re willing to explore this style of fishing, you’ll find yourself alone in the marsh, something we all seek in the ever growing sport of fishing.

Taylor will focus on techniques for targeting skinny water reds along the upper Texas coast. Topics will include pre-fishing (desktop) intel, effective gear, and most importantly, on the water tactics to find, pursue, and land a swamp red on fly.

There is no charge for admission and all are welcome at the meeting. This will be an interactive discussion and Taylor and others are happy to share their experiences. You will not want to miss this presentation.

So, if you are interested in learning more about the fly fishing the upper coast for redfish, watching some fly tying before the meeting, or are just interested in socializing (and telling some whopper fishing stories) with a friendly group of fly fishing men and women come to our October 26 meeting monthly meeting.  We would be glad to have you and look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Time: Meeting Time 7-9 pm (socializing and fly tying starting ~6:30 pm)

Place: Mendenhall Community Center

  1. Can you recommend a fly fishing guide for red fish on the upper coast? Skiff needs to have a rail for balance.
I live on lake fork and could trade a spring bass fishing trip for a red fish trip.
