Sam Houston National Forest – Fly Fishing the Sam

Inspired by Robert McConnell’s “Fly Fishing the Sam” presentation to the TFF Club on Oct 27, I made a day trip today to the East Fork of the San Jacinto River.  Finding the parking spot and trailhead was easy, exactly as described in the book.  Hike to the river was appx 20 minutes.  River was low and somewhat muddy, but wading upstream thru the river made it fishable.

I spent a couple hrs wondering up and down the river, and was able to draw out a couple fish (spotted bass and a longear sunfish) on my 1 wt..  I saw no one else on the trail or the river.

I am definitely looking forward to exploring some more of Robert’s recommendations.
