2020 Trout in the Classroom Project

The TFF sponsored Trout in the Classroom project kicked off last week with the delivery of more than 2000 rainbow trout eggs to 15 tanks in high schools around the Houston area. This year we have expanded to two new schools, but also lost a few tanks due to staffing changes at our existing schools. Here is where the tanks are this year.

Katy ISD

1) Katy HS – 3 tanks

2) Paetow HS – 2 tanks

3) Morton Ranch HS  – 2 tanks

4) Mayde Creek HS – 2 tanks

5) Seven Lakes HS – 1 tank

Deer Park ISD

1) Deer Park HS – 1 tank

Conroe ISD

1) Oak Ridge HS – 3 tanks

Houston ISD

1) Westbury HS – 1 tanks

As you can see from some of the pictures we already have hatchlings and so far it looks like we have received a very healthy set of eggs this year. The hatchlings will be raised by the students up until May, at which point they will be released into the TU managed section of the Guadalupe River. If you have questions about the program please feel free to contact me and thanks to Ralph Havis and Doug Spencer (GRTU) who have volunteered to help me out this year!

  1. Matt,
Our eggs arrived at the hatchery here in Pecos NM. A snowstorm is going to make delivery to the schools a challenge. This will be our second year at the Pecos High School
    Great job.
