Captain Aubrey Black; Press Release; Memorial Service

October 9, 2019
To Our Baffin Bay Rod and Gun Family and Friends,

Last Thursday, October 3, 2019, our beloved Captain Aubrey Black passed away unexpectedly. Capt. Sally is devastated and there is no way that mere words can begin to express the sadness that we are all experiencing at this time. We are all very thankful and humbled by the outpouring of support from our friends and longtime clients, it means the world to us.

Guiding is not a profession it is a calling. Those of you who have fished with Aubrey and Sally know the blood, sweat, tears, and passion that they have both invested into the lodge and into providing a special place on Baffin for clients to come and relax. Aubrey took great pride in putting clients on their personal best speckled trout and relished being part of the experience. When he married Sally and they combined talents, the experience turned into something magical.

Many of our clients, friends, and colleagues have asked “what can we do to help?

We want to honor Aubrey by keeping Baffin Bay Rod and Gun as “The Last Best Place on the Texas Coast”.

A memorial for Capt. Aubrey Black will be held at Baffin Bay Rod and Gun on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 10:00am. Food and music will be provided. All of Aubrey’s many friends, clients and family are invited to come and celebrate Aubrey’s wonderful life with Capt. Sally and Aubrey’s family.

The Saltwater Legend Series Tournament group, headed by Capt. Chad Peterek and others, have set up a GoFundMe page for Capt. Sally and the family. Please click this link to help, if you can, or share this link with others:

Aubrey Black was such a wonderful person and he will be missed

by everyone who knew him. His dream was to have a first-class

fishing and hunting lodge on Baffin Bay. Before he died, he and

Sally achieved that dream.

Capt. Sally and the entire crew at Baffin Bay Rod and Gun are

inviting everyone to continue to book fishing and hunting trips

and help us carry on the legacy of Capt. Aubrey Black who loved

Baffin Bay.

  1. Used to lessen to Sally Black on the Radio, Houston Fishing Show every weekend.. I will go down and fish with Sally on my Birthday this year. So Sorry for a great fisherman to end this way.. I know Aubrey will be fishing in Heaven with his friends. Prayer and Blessing to the Black family and friends.

  2. Every year for the last five or so Capts. Aubrey and Sally were our booth neighbor at the Houston Fishing Show. As such we had a great time listening to their stories, talking with Sally and her love for fly fishing, and sharing a lot of quality time with the Black’s. I personally have Sally to thank for my largest speckled trout to date (32.25″) caught in a location she directed me to for the Redfish Rodeo back in 2005 or 2006. This is a huge loss for the Texas Coastal Fishing Community, my best wishes to Black family and their many friends. Aubrey may you rest in Peace.
