Casting Schedule Instruction and Workshops

(Location- the casting area is set up outside on the grass)

Casting Area for Children-a small area will be available for children accompanied by a parent or guardian to have some fly casting fun and learn some very basic skills related to fly fishing.

Individual Instruction-Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructors will be on hand to provide individual casting instruction to participants. Additionally, Federation of Fly Fishers Master Casting Instructor, Jeff Ferguson will be on hand throughout the day.

Casting Workshops

Scheduled workshops will be offered throughout the day and will include the opportunity for participants to make the featured cast with an instructor if desired by the participant. The Workshop Schedule is as follows:

9:00 Master Casting Instructor, Jeff Ferguson will discuss and demonstrate basic techniques to create an accurate cast which will include a discussion about shooting line to lengthen the cast. This discussion will include several casts such as the the Pick Up and Lay Down cast.

10:00 Captain Steve Soule will discuss and demonstrate skills related to saltwater fly casting. Steve’s discussion will included skills related to both fishing from a saltwater skiff and while seated in a kayak.

1:00 Master Casting Instructor, Jeff Ferguson will discuss and demonstrate skills related to casting in winds of varying speed and direction in relation to the intended cast along with skills related to casting to greater distance accurately. This discussion will include a discussion of the use of the double haul.

2:00 Certified Casting Instructor, Gary Davison will discuss and demonstrate skills related to Spey Casting.

3:00 Master Casting Instructor, Jeff Ferguson will discuss and demonstrate how to use the false cast to assist in accuracy, line control, change of direction and distance.

Each Instructor presentation will last approximately 45 minutes. During the clinic, any participant who desires to have an instructor assist with a specific casting issue can approach any of the instructors not directly involved in making the presentation to work with them on their issue of choice.

All participants are encouraged to bring their own rod with line and leader for the workshops. However, any participant who wishes to participate and does not have their personal rod should not hesitate to request a rod from one of the instructors on had as the club will have a limited supply of loaner rods available.
