Speakers, Monthly Meeting, May 29, 2018 Elaina ‘Ellie’ Roeing, PT, DPT – Strengthening Arm and Shoulder Muscles to Avoid Fly Casting Injuries.; Ron Mayfield – Where and How to Catch One of the Rarest Fish in North America, the Montana Arctic Grayling

 

At the Tuesday, May 29, 2018 monthly meeting of the Texas Fly Fishers we are fortunate to have two fine speakers.

Ron Mayfield will be making a presentation about where and how to catch one of the rarest fish in North America, the Montana Arctic Grayling and Elaina ‘Ellie’ Roeing, PT, DPT  will be making a presentation about strengthening arm and shoulder muscles to avoid fly casting injuries.

In that regard, Ron has been fly fishing and fly tying since he was 13 years old – for 46 years. He has fly fished from British Colombia to Belize and many places in between. He specializes in salt water flats fishing along the Texas Gulf Coast and has designed many unique patterns for this area. He has been featured in Fly Tyer Magazine and On The Fly Magazine and is a Fly Designer for Umpqua. Ron is also a Certified Fly Casting Instructor and leads the Southside Fly Casting group where TFF members can meet for fly casting instructions. Ron’s presentation will be on where and how to catch one of the rarest fish in North America, the Montana Arctic Grayling.

Elaina ‘Ellie’ Roeing, PT, DPT holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine where she graduated in 2016. Her undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science, Field Of Study Health Sciences PreProfessional from Purdue University.  While at Purdue, she was the Team Captain of the Swimming and Diving Team. She is currently a Physical Therapist with the Memorial Hermann Health System at the Pearland branch office. She also volunteers twice a week at Athlete Training and Health to help improve the transition for athletes between Physical Therapy and Strength and Conditioning.  Ellie will be showing the club the correct way to strengthen arm and shoulder muscles to avoid fly casting injuries.

There is no charge for admission and all are welcome at the meeting.  So, if you are interested in learning more about the fly fishing world, if you are interested in watching some fly tying before the meeting or are just interested in socializing with a friendly group of fly fishing men and women come to the May 29, 2018 monthly meeting.     • Hello Sara,
      The full meeting is from 6-9. There’s an hour to socialize and what fly tiers. Then the business meeting and presentation starts at 7. We have to be out of the building by 9.

  2. Can you post Ellie’s ppt pitch of exercises?
    (I thought Mayfield was to do that but haven’t seen anything yet so apologies if done and I missed it)
