“All,
Unfortunately due to the continued 600cfs flow rate on the river, we will have to postpone the trip once again. The water levels are not conducive to bringing a group to the river and fishing safely. Of course they could change the flows tomorrow but its just not predictable. i even called Action angler to find out info and they are in the dark also regarding the output from the dam. We will discuss an alternative date at the club meeting next Tuesday night. I believe there are still 1 or 2 guides available to float the river this weekend (which is much safer) so if you want info let me know.
Notwithstanding, i will be up there this weekend (as already cancelled last week and i dont have too many weekends left before the family arrive back from the UK) so will be at Lucky`s on Friday evening as planned (7pm) if anyone would like to join me. I will probably fish on Saturday if i can find any decent water.

“In the interest of safety, we must postpone/cancel the Guadalupe River One Fly. scheduled for Saturday, January 21st. The GBRA has announced river flow of appox. 600 cfs as of 1PM today. It is doubtful that the river flow will return to normal (300 CFS) before Saturday. Even 400 would be fishable, but 500+ is too risky for all but the most experienced waders. As I have a prior commitment next weekend, I cannot lead a make-up then. Please contact Puck if you are interested in helping lead the event. Tracy and I will still be in Sattler this weekend and are still going to Lucky’s on Friday.

I want to change the meeting for the One-Fly from 7:30 am at Reel Fly to 7:30 PM Friday night the 20th at Lucky’s http://www.luckyssportsbarandgrill.com/ .  It’s too damned hard to get a spot on one of the leases on a weekend that late in the morning.  

When:  21 January 2017 (2017-01-21)  with a back-up date of the the 28^th.

Important items:

•   Current Texas Fishing License
•   Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited Lease Access Pass (not essential but it will help you reach areas the others can’t)
•   Waders with safety belt
•   Wading staff
•   Extra change of dry clothes
•   Wind and/or water proof jacket
•   Wide brimmed hat AND polarized glasses

Recommended Equipment:  Standard trout fishing gear will work fine here.  Rods should be in the 4-5wt range and whatever length you feel comfortable with, although as the predominant method is nymphing longer rods are better.  Tippets in the 5x range should be fine; I don’t think you need to go any lower unless you find the fish are really spooky.  Fluorocarbon is not essential, but I am sure it can’t hurt if you want to use it.  Standard 9ft leaders, split shot, indicators (if you want to use them), forceps, landing net, tape measure and camera.

Waders are essential to fish this river as most of the banks are private. A kayak can really expand the area you can fish.

Recommended Flies: Nymphing/streamers are the best bet as dry fly hatches on this river tend to be sporadic and this is a competition after all.  These are mainly hatchery raised fish that have been in the river only a couple of months so flies do not need to be complicated.  Last year egg patterns, san juan worms and basic nymphs such as hare’s ears, copper johns and pheasant tails all worked.  Sizes from 18-14 should be about right.  If you want to use streamers then woolly buggers (white or black) seem to work well.  Choose one fly, tie it on well and go for it!  If you get up to the river the day before you could stop at The Fly Shop and ask what is working on the river at the moment.

Recommended guidelines for participants:
•   Notify the trip leader if you have any potential concerns
•   If inexperienced, then buddy up.
•   If you are boating or kayaking, inform the trip leader of your float plan if planning to fish alone or longer then the designated times.
•   Sign in and sign out at the launch site. Inform the trip leader if you will be launching in a different place.
•   Be careful wading! There are some nasty slots in the river bed that can catch you unawares if you do not pay attention
