Talked to Denis who is down at PINS. South beach is closed at Malaquite due to heavy winds blowing the tide into the beach. Looks like the front has not blown through as hoped. Denis said the conditions are so bad he is heading home. Talked to Paul, too. We decided to call a no go and cancel the trip. Sorry.

Padre Island National Seashore 2016-11-12. Spotting jacks in the surf and casting to them.
Stay in a hotel the night before. You take care of your own lodging.
Meet at the Visitor Center parking lot an hour before sunrise. We want to be at MM 20 by sunrise.
4WD or a ride is needed.
8-12 wt rod required
3-6″ whitish flies with Billy S’s set-up using a 1/32 oz egg or cone sinker tied into the loop knot.

At 60-70 miles long, Padre Island is the longest, undeveloped, barrier island in the world. Anglers with four-wheel drive vehicles can access almost all of it.

So is this considered to be a hot time for Jack’s? I might actually be able to make this one!
It actually is. Bear and I went a few years back during this time, and it was everything we were told. Jacks would actually hit us in the back of the knees as we waded past them. By the time we learned not to actually get into the water, the frenzied bite was over.
Looks like conditions are going to be perfect – light N to NNE winds. Should be a lot of fish right on the beach. I’m planning to go down Fri. and spend the night on the beach in my Jumping Jack trailer – but I need someone to go with me. You never travel on PINS by yourself. If someone would like to spend the night on the beach and fish at first light, please give me a call – 281-797-1890. “Billy Sandifer told me the best time to fish for Jacks in the surf is in Nov. 2 days after a front blows through. The front is blowing through PINS right now, which means Sat. should be great for Jacks. I’ve been waiting years for this opportunity.
David Weaver and Scott Fossum are spending Fri. night with me in the Jumping Jack camper. We’ll set up near the 20 ml marker and meet you all Sat. morning.
