River float speed

(1/1)

Dave Kelly:
What is the normal distance covered per hour when floating/fishing a river like the Colorado near La Grange?

Golden:
Not fast at all.  You must paddle full time because the wind usually out of the southeast blows you back up stream.  If there has been some recent and substantial rainfall the current will take you downstream but fishing will be poor! Best craft would be a low profile kayak or a 17' old town canoe for two - one fishing and one paddling.

Dave Kelly:
I guess MPH should be the question.
Three miles of river in 6 hours or slower would be about right.

Golden:
Yes but there would be paddling involved.
