Sunday morning in the West bay marsh
« on: May 18, 2014, 10:09:20 AM »
Caught 3 nice redfish in a west bay marsh this morning.  At dawn the tide was low and very slowly rising.  Wind was mild out of the south.  First red was tricked at barely daylight.  It was slowly cruising a grass line with its back out of the water.  About 30 minutes later I found a pod of about 15 to 20 fish working a shore line at the front of a long inlet.  Caught one and then found the pod again working at the back of the inlet and caught another one.  Had several good casting opportunities at other reds, but missed them due to early season amateurish mistakes.  Also characteristically managed to accomplish 2 long distance releases.  All in all an excellent morning to be on the water.  All fish were released frightened but unharmed.

Caught 2 of them on a fly I tie that's kind of a clouser/bendback looking thing that if you look sideways, squint, and look fast it might resemble a shrimp.  The other one I caught on a small red spoon fly.  photos attached.

Well done and nice report! Great to see that pods are active in the marsh... Any idea what they were feeding on?

Can't wait to get out there!

GDS
Is that a strike indicator or a bobber?
