Saturday get together - San Luis Pass
« on: May 01, 2013, 05:09:15 PM »
Puck & I are going to launch our kayaks at San Luis Pass County Park http://www.brazoria-county.com/parks/san_luis_pass/ (aka the Old KOA Campgrounds) this Saturday at noon. There will be a falling tide and the winds are supposed to be favorable.  Anyone who wants  to join us is more than welcome. Click on the park link above for directions.

I can be reached during the week at 713-213-eight-one-five-zero and that morning at 713-213-eight-zero-three-seven.

Tight lines!

The water is warm enough that there is no need for waders.

This can be a feast or famine day.  The cold front has moved in, and may change the way the fish react.

When crossing the water from the launch to the island, put on somethign shiny, with a bite tippet.  The smacks sometimes will hit a trolled fly.

To fish, or not to fish?  What a stupid question!

If you can't borrow one, call Austin Kayak or FTU on the Gulf Fwy and see if you can rent one. I know ACK rents them.

We were completely blown off the water.  Bear didn't even launch.

There was no way we could get out of the mouth of the boat launch safely.  Mike Q, Bob s. and I all waited at the mouth in the hopes that the wind would die down.

20+ mph winds, and off-color water.   These conditions never changed.

The day was cut at about 1600.  All the hopes of the wind dying down were in vain.

And for some reason the tide didn't turn until 1500.

After getting blown of the water yesterday, Mike Q. and I fished the local pond today just to feel a fish on a fly rod.

The wind had still not laid down.  The small bass and lager bluegill were game for a small fly, so the skunk was off.
