Phone number for PINS conditions/recording

1-361-949-8175

Joe

Driving conditions today are "fair."

The weather forecast is 40-50% chance of rain.  Rainy weather is fishable.  If lightning shows up, I will stay in the truck and read a book until it passes.

We have a schedule cleanup for Saturday.  They could be an obstacle for getting downrange.  That being said, I think would should camp between the 10 and 15 mile marker Friday night.  I can send a message from "Finder" to those of us that are trailing, showing exactly where we will be set up.

My part of the "convoy" will head to CC about 2013-09-27-0900.

I'll mention this again at the meeting tonight.

Puck- I was told to confirm that I'm joining this trip (for food purposes). I assume there's one community meal, and then everyone fends for themselves for the rest of the trip. This true?

Well I thought I would fess up publicly rather than just not show up.  I have had a job go bad on me up in Dallas that requires my staying here to limit the monetary damages if you know what I mean.  My roofer did not show up for work today and when I called him all he could say was that the "job is too hard".  Really...it wasn't too hard when I first showed it to him and he agreed to do it.  If this happens in HTown I have little problem getting another installer but when it happens in Dallas, well that is another story. I have contacted my fishing partner last night and verified with him today that I would not be attending (so unlike me huh?).

Good news is I have been able to contact three potential installers and will be walking the job with them today. Hope I get a good guy and he does a good job.  sorry MaryKay as I promised to fish with you and help out your casting.  We'll do it again. I hope you all have a wonderful time.  Think safety first. I'll take all the ribbing I'm due when you guys return.

Weather looks to be clearing up nicely for Friday & Saturday. A little blustery Saturday evening but only a 20% chance of rain on Friday & Saturday.

PINS trip 2013, report
« Reply #52 on: September 30, 2013, 10:22:11 AM »
The trip was great, because of the people in it.
There were 12 people at the campsite Friday night.  Everybody was at the 25+ mile before sundown.

The wind was blowing at 15+ mph the entire day Friday and Saturday.

A lot of bait in the water, but not much was chasing it.

We caught a lot of ladyfish, and a ton of baby jacks with a few 4+ pounders thrown in to make things interesting.  I saw a picture of Scott B's redfish, 34 inches.  I'm looking for that picture, and more photos.

Skip and Mary-Kay had some automobile excitement Friday night.

By late Saturday our numbers had diminished to only 6 hopeful anglers.  The winds died completely, allowing the mosquitoes to find us at about 0300 Sunday. The storms came at about 0500 morning, as we did what we call a "BUGOUT."

The last 6 of us made is safely to the parking area safely, only to find out that the "good" showers don't open until 0900.

My son is still talking about it, as he drives back to Georgia

I'll add some more detail to this later today.  I am still trying to get some sand out.......

Puck- had a great time and excellent to meet some folks I hadn't had the pleasure of meeting before. My shoulder and elbow are seriously sore from casting in that wind and catching all those small fish. I swear, at once stretch I caught ladyfish on like 20 consecutive casts.

With the malfunction of the sleeping gear and the rough conditions we decided to high-tail it back to Houston. I was so bushed I slept until 10AM on Sunday.

I've camped on the beach before but you always learn new lessons:
1) go with the tent-cot
2) have a way to brush the sand off your feet before turning in
3) cooking on the beach is overrated- a cooler full of sandwiches is more than adequate

My comments on your lessons:

I've camped on the beach before but you always learn new lessons:

1) go with the tent-cot...
Agree !  I have one.  And so do Mary-Kay and Skip.  Easy setup, and good night's sleep..

2) have a way to brush the sand off your feet before turning in
Use a plastic dishpan with an inch or so of seawater (Billy S. trick)

3) cooking on the beach is overrated- a cooler full of sandwiches is more than adequate
Canned food works too.  Just make sure to have a can opener !!

And on a side note...   That was 18  :(

Awesome fish Scott!

Man, a fish that size, sight cast to in the surf would have almost been worth me leaving my better half alone at home with the baby.....almost but not quite!
