I've signed up also.  I've been to that area a few times in the last couple of years.  Hit and miss proposition.  When the fish are there it is great.  Otherwise it is still good casting practice, and photos.

To all interested, please monitor the board for news about the outings. As we know, in the past this has not been a good outing, weather wise. March 24th will be the "call" date and it will be posted on the forum. Pray for good conditions.

Did I also mention that it is a good opportunity to pick the hardcore "salties" brains about that area?

A lot of them carry a laminated map and can point out spots, ideas, and techniques that have worked in the past for them.   Wink

Joe has offered me a ride in his boat this year, so I am leaving the kayak in the garage.

Break out the 8wt!

I have been out on my kayak a couple of times with no luck catching anything.  Is there someone I can buddy up with and take pointers from?

Nobody's answered yet?

My catch rate isn't that high, but I get lot's of casting practice.  If you are blindcasting, which I do 90% of the time, aim at a target.  The edge of the grass, a slight change on color, bait moving, a hole in the weeds, all make good targets.  A fly in the air catches no fish.  Keep moving, unless you see something, and keep your fly wet.  I like a bendback for finding fish, others like shrimp patterns.  We even have one guy that won't tie on anything but a spoon-fly (RH).

Post up again during the weekend, ans see if anybody else is awake.

Hey Pucker,

I remember on Eagle Lake when you asked me if I saw that Bass come out of the water and hit your Pete's Gurgle Popper and I lied and said NO. The next time you asked I said yes and it was outstanding. You can catch a fish when your fly is out of the water! Right?

I stand corrected!  Occasionally a fish will come out of the water to take a fly.  Smiley

Do I really need a VHF or FRS radio?  If so any suggestions on what to get?
Is there a copy of the waiver form online to fill out and bring?

The radio is not a bad thing to bring, and could be a life-saver when it is needed.

I don't bring one in my kayak, but most of the kayak water I go to are not BTB (beyond the breaker).

I still don't know who else is using a kayak for this trip.
