POC was void of people this weekend...very high water from full moon scattered the fish everywhere.  Fished with a new TFF'er Rloveless off his Mitzi. Real nice boat.  I caught a nice red in the ICW on Friday as the wind was blowing out of north 15 to 20 mph all day. Sat the wind switched around to the southeast but increased in speed!  All reds and trout caught by the 3 of us were blindcasted and nothing of any size was caught. I poled his Mitzi up a (way) back creek (for those of you that know it was Monday Creek) and it handled the tight conditions superbly! We saw plenty of fish but way too late to get a shot at them due to the overcast conditions. Had shots at 2 oversized reds later in the day but they wouldn't eat...and I am kinda glad they didn't (Real Big).  Then a Big Jack came into view and charged my fly...oh NO you don't.  Wasn't about to waste my eight weight on him either!  Caught some good fish on conventional tackle after a rain squall blew thru but again no sightcasting was available due to cloudy/windy conditions.  Sunday was worse (lightening, rain, & wind) and I didn't even give it a try.  Guide buddy of mine located two big schools of oversized fish Sunday mid day but one of his charters got spooled and lost fly, line, and leader off his 8 wt.! See you guys at the Redfish Rodeo, but I will be fishing the POC area!  Join me if you want but you better bring your 10 - 12 wts as the big red boys are in Town.  By the way Ryan and Clarke thanks for the Company. We'll do it again.  Mike G.

Getting spooled with a 8wt on a oversised redfish means a poor drag system on a cheaper reel. Roll Eyes

Thanks Mike! We had a great time!  I really appreciate you helping me learning POC. I am already looking at the schedule thrying to figure out when my next POC get-a-way will be.  We saw a ton of fish but it was all too late thanks to the wind and clouds.

Ryan

PS  i am still in love with Toasties...

PSS the Mitzi now has the casting platform tied-down with the pop-up stripping basket secured in front of it.  All i need now is the 21ft Stiffy Hybrid!!!!!!!!!!!
