New to Fly Fishing and Fly tying
« on: January 02, 2015, 05:58:04 PM »
Hi there! I am a new member hoping to meet new friends who share my newly discovered passion, which is fly fishing! I met Wormdrowner a couple of weeks back at FTU's Shallow Water expo and he encouraged me to start posting up on the forum.

I have fished all my life and dabbled with a fly rod while  fishing in my grandparents stock tank when I was a kid. I wasn't doing it right, but did manage to catch a few small bass and perch. Later, I started surf fishing - light and heavier tackle. Catching quality fish from a foot is still a passion of mine because of the challenge. However, because of the increasing amount of seaweed showing each year in the surf, having my fill of catch and release bullreds and sharks, and growing older realizing my focus has been a little too narrow, I am adventuring into a different arena of fishing. Actually, fly fishing is something I have been interested in for the past 20 years. I just never dove into it until now.

Back in August, I obtained an 8 wt TFO rod and a Sage reel, and took a lesson in fly casting from one of Houston's finest instructors. Since then, I fish for bass at a park lake near my house at least 3 times a week. I have caught plenty of bass sense then and have been on the coast and caught speckled trout and flounder with my fly rod. Still no redfish of which inspired to get into fly fishing to start with! LOL! Anyway, the redfish will come soon enough!

I just bought a fly tying vise about 3 weeks ago and have tied several flies. Mainly clousers, but I have been working on a mullet imitation with EP fibers and dubbing recently and have tried it out on the bass and they seem to like it even though the fly is tied for speckled trout.

Even though I work nights and am working on another degree, I hope to get involved with the club as much as I can. See you soon!

We will be targeting sheepshead, white bass, and black bass shortly.

All take different flies.

Everybody has their favorites.

Ready to get on the water?

Puck
To fish, or not to fish?  What a stupid question!
