Outing Chat / Yakking GISP on Sunday?
« on: July 06, 2012, 08:24:07 PM »
Thinking I might take the kayak out. Anyone interested in hitting the marshes around Galveston Island State Park on Sunday morning? I could also be persuaded into hitting the marshes around Stingaree on Bolivar as well.  Give me a shout if you're interested.

Dan, I'd love to go, but I promised the Leader of the Opposition that we'd go up to the GHW Bush library on Saturday and have dinner with her daughter.

Good luck & tight lines!

Here is the Muy Guapo just out of the Mechanic's shop.

The boat might be "Muy Guapo" but the guys fishing from it were more like "Loco y Feo" !!!!!! :P  ;D

Outing Chat / Re: White Oak Lakes - HOT!

Matt,

Yes, they'll hit poppers. I got bored catching them on a woolly bugger and switch to a frog popper and had a blast. Mike & I hit it again yesterday morning, this time in our kickboat/kayaks. The bite wasn't quite as furious as the last time, but it was still pretty darn good!

The area is located right across from the store where we met up at for the St Pat's day outing, Holister & West Little York.

Let's put it this way; I caught so many fish on wooly buggers that I got bored and switched to a topwater frog pattern just to even things up a bit. They still went tearing after the fly! You definitely want your lightest rod as these fish weren't big, but they sure were fun!   ;D

BTW: Golden isn't exaggerating when he says 200 fish. We really did catch that many!

The War Department is going to a bridal shower in College Station, so I have a free Saturday.  Looking to hit it somewhere. Anyone interested?

Well, the turn out was more based on quality than quantity as there were only three of us. Eduardo, George & I started off fishing the south shoreline west of the launch. The conditions looked good, except for the wind. Unfortunately, someone forgot to inform the fish. We then decided to head into Churchill Bayou and Little Churchill Bayou.  The water was somewhat murky and despite our best efforts, we struck out. The wind may have been forecast at 10, but was easily 15+. This ensured our paddle back to the ramp from Churchill would be "entertaining".  Afterwards, George came up with the best suggestion of the day, which was lunch at Cafe Michael Burger just west of the seawall.

Thought we all got skunked, it was a beautiful day with good food & good friends. All in all, it was a success, IMHO.
