Saturday, three intrepid anglers, all members of the Katy Navy, set forth towards the Louisiana border in pursuit of redfish, trout & flounder glory. After a hearty breakfast at the Garth Rd Denny's and a pit stop/editorial statement at the Port Arthur Wal-Mart, we launched in Bridge City. The wind was mild and temps were warming. We hoped to find our quarry beneath the waves of Sabine Lake.  We paddled out towards some birds working the channel, but found no takers. We worked, flats, mud and channel drop-offs to no avail. We then worked our way back into the marsh but did not see a single bait fish, let alone game fish.  After 5+ miles of paddling, we decided to call it a day, only to find that the tire on Puck's kayak trailer had decided to go flat. Of course Puck had a spare for his trailer....120 miles west of us in his garage...(!) John minded the kayaks while Don & I set off to the Bridge City Wally World for some Slime to fix the tire. We then sought out air, ending up at the same place Golden & I got air for his kayak trailer's flat last year (noticing a pattern here?). We then went back to retrieve John and the kayaks. While we were gone, John met a local gentleman, Wesley (I believe), who gave us some great tips and suggestions for the next time we hit the marshes there.  We set out for our west Houston Shangri-La.  After several stops to find air for our leaky tire involving Puck doing battle with a coin-op compressor, we made it home, fishless, but never the less, smiling after a fun day of adventure with great friends.

Yes we are. John & I are meeting at Puck's at 6 and going to Denny's. Then on to the ramp to meet at 9.

I will do room assignments next week.

If you have not signed up yet, your chances of getting on a boat grow slimmer by the day.

Looking at the Bridge City forecast, it looks like a steady 10 MPH north or northeast wind all week. I wonder if we will have any water in the bay to fish?

I was just looking at the forecast. Keep an eye this thread. If things go seriously downhill again weatherwise, we may just write this one off to the fishing gods and hope that the PPI on the 1st comes off without a hitch.

Not since they raised it to Buck Fifty Point...  :o

We are still meeting at Denny's at 7:15-7:30 and at the ramp at 9:00 AM. No sense getting overly rambunctious.....

It's not too late to sign up for the rescheduled date next Saturday.  Come on and try out those new flies you'll learn to tie tomorrow at the Fly Tying Festival!

Tomorrow is four weeks out on the trip. If you haven't signed up, please do so. I want to get everyone assigned to boats and/or beds.

After talking with a couple of the guys, I have decided that discretion is the better part of valor and we will postpone the outing until February 8th.

Well, we can't do next weekend as it's the Fly Tying Festival.  The next feasible weekend would be the 8th and there's no guarantee about the weather.

Right now, Bridge City is showing sunny and 56 for tomorrow.  Yes, we may encounter shallow water conditions, but that's pretty typical of winter fishing.

I'm fine with postponing it until then if that's what everyone would like to do.

Please let me know what you think and I'll make the call by 5 pm today. Hell, the worst case scenario is we all meet at Denny's, have breakfast and decide to scrub it then.

Kulcak Lodge is Full with 10 folks for Friday night!
Wallace Lodge has 6 staying over Friday Night.

This notice was updated as of February 27th at 4:30 pm.   As we get a little closer, we'll also try to assign lodging, if necessary. Besides Alan's place, Bill W. has been gracious enough to offer spot at his house as well. I will post an update late next week.  If you remember last year the fishing down at Bill's was excellent under the lights.

Of course we are going to have Friday Night's Dinner at the same place as last year.  Mike Q. will make all the necessary arrangements. We'll need a head count soon.  Make sure you sign up.  The word is out on the street and the pot lickers are starting to line up outside!   :o

MK & S Donovan will be attending but they have made arrangements for their own lodging. They are planning on bringing a guest too.   ;D

As said above hurry and let us know if you will be in Friday night for dinner. Maybe around 7:00PM. Corner of Hwy 457 from Bay City and FM 2611/2004 from SH 288 Lake Jackson
Looks like we should make plans for at least fifteen at the table(s). We need to find out if we can bring our own cooler.  Remember last year they ran out of Shiner!  >:(
