About You / Re: Moving to Houston
« on: June 11, 2015, 09:07:58 AM »
Welcome aboard Daren!

Y'all have a good group with the Alamo FlyFishers and you'll find we have a pretty good gang here too.  Our outings signup is here in the forum. Feel free to jump in. Our next club meeting will be the 30th of June.  You won't have to give up that Hill Country fishing as we have several outings out that way, plus you'll have the salt outings nearby as well.

See you at the meeting!

Michael Quigley

Rob,

Thanks for your feedback. Hearing from people like yourself is exactly what we need. Most of us have been on here for years and take things for granted. We really need a newcomer's perspective as to how to make this more welcoming as we add more fly fishing fanatics.

Scott, I think you have a fair assessment of the situation.

Somebody please post some fishing shots, stories or something! It's been almost 3 weeks since the first hip operation and 8 days since the second. I haven't run either boat in a month and I think the last time I wet a line was 4-5 weeks ago at Puck's subdivision. I'm about to climb the walls (if my leg would let me!). I've even taking to terrorizing Tracy with my Orvis Practicaster......

If I don't heal up soon and get out on the water, I'm gonna lose it!!!!!!  :o

Here is Bill's email with everything you need to know about the new location:

I spoke to Don (the original trip lead). He told me because of all the rain and the current water level of Chocolate Bayou the fishing would be very bad.  The Chocolate Bayou the fishing trip is canceled.

Hoping the weather cooperates, I plan to go the Bolivar three mile turn around.  This should give us a great chance to catch reds and trout.  The trip will be a kayak or wade fishing trip from the beach.  We will meet on the beach (see directions below). If you will be bringing a boat, there is boat launch near the North Jetty Bait Camp.  Turn right on 16th street.  The ramp is at the end of the road.  Please let me know if you plan to do this.  There is not much room to park but you can park at the North Jetty Bait Camp (100 Yards away).   You can buy bait if you want at the following locations: North Jetty Bait Camp, 802 17th St. Port Bolivar, TX 77650 or Joe's Bait & Crabs, 724 Nelson Avenue, Port Bolivar, TX 77650.  Six miles from the ferry there is Bolivar Yacht Bait Camp Boyt Rd Port Bolivar, TX 77650 (Left on Boyt take last left to bait)

Directions to the beach:  https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Houston,+TX/29.3824704,-94.7233663/@29.5625773,-95.1687556,10z/am=t/data=!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x8640b8b4488d8501:0xca0d02def365053b!2m2!1d-95.3698028!2d29.7604267!1m0!5i1  Follow the directions above then turn right on Rettilon Rd and drive to the beach. Turn right on the beach and go to the end of the beach (1/4 to 1/2mile).  Park by the barrier.  I have been able to drive my Prius on the hard packed beach.  We will launch kayaks from there.

Please let me know what you intend to do.  If the weather does not cooperate, I will cancel this trip Friday evening.  Watch for the email.

Outing Information Only / Re: Chocolate Bayou - May 30 - Cancelled
« on: May 27, 2015, 06:52:15 PM »
Due to the huge influx of fresh water, it has been decided that the outing at Chocolate Bayou is cancelled. Bill Leary, the outing leader, is trying to find a suitable area to fish instead. Watch this thread for updates.

Thanks Joe, but the Platinum isn't compatible with the fishfinders on my boats.  Of course, at the rate I'm going, I may just put a gps/fishfinder on a wheelchair.........

You are right, Mike. I think that's what makes this club special is the great people who are members.

Highly doubtful. This is primarily a kayak trip, though stranger things have happened.
