In celebration of my new job, I decided to check out fly reels in EBay. I found & purchased a brand new Tibor Everglades QC for $450. They retail for $750. New job, new reel.....now if I can just save up a few bucks,  I'll add "new boat"  8)

Outing Chat / August Saltwater Outing
« on: August 03, 2012, 06:17:08 PM »
I talked to Marcos today and based on what he has heard, he suggested that we hit the Bolivar pocket near the North jetty. This would allow both kayaks & wading If the wind is not what want, we can slip over to the other side of the peninsula and fish Sievers Cut.  I am going to go with August 25th.

I know that there's a fair bit of interest in Fence lake, but I'd like to do that with a little more notice than a couple of weeks. We might hit that later in the Fall.

What is everyone's thoughts?

« on: July 06, 2012, 08:24:07 PM »
Thinking I might take the kayak out. Anyone interested in hitting the marshes around Galveston Island State Park on Sunday morning? I could also be persuaded into hitting the marshes around Stingaree on Bolivar as well.  Give me a shout if you're interested.

General Discussion / R.I.P. Jose Wejebe

Don't know how many of you are familiar with Jose Wejebe, host of "The Spanish Fly" on The Oudoor Channel, but sadly, it appears he died in a plane crash today:

He seemed like a decent fellow.

Vaya con Dios, Jose.

About You / Wormdrowner

Started fly fishing back around 2005. I got hooked on it chasing steelhead in some of NE Ohio's Lake Erie tributaries during my 9 1/2 years "in exile". Came home to Houston in 2010 and had to relearn how to flyfish, as our methods are somewhat different than what I learned up there. I just wish I would have learned flyfishing as a kid growing up in Spring Branch all those years ago. I don't tie at all. I spend 8-12 hours a day looking at little numbers on spreadsheets (I'm a financial analyst), I don't think my eyes can take me spending my free time looking at little bitty flies all evening. My hat's off to those of you who can. I greatly admire your work!

I generally prefer salt to fresh, but I am discovering the joys of perch & small bass on a 3wt (thanks Golden!)

Hope to see y'all on the water! Tight lines to all!

General Discussion / Bought another rod today.....
« on: December 26, 2011, 06:29:35 PM »
My buddy gave me a $75 gift card to BPS for Christmas. Used that and a fist full of more dollars to buy a Sage Flight 5wt and a Lamson Konic 2 reel. Been wanting a 5wt and what the heck, I was a good boy this year! ;D

Outing Chat / Brown lines were REALLY brown!
« on: December 23, 2011, 03:22:02 PM »
Wandered up to White Oak bayou in the Woodland Oaks area, today. Thought I might find some clearing water. No luck. Visibility was around 5" at best. Tossed a chartreuse woolly bugger for an hour and decided to come back when the water is clearer.  Called Golden and we're kicking around the idea of trying Monday, depending on how much rain we get this weekend.
