General Discussion / Re: Cache la Poudre River and North Platte in July 2014

We used to ride that route on our motorcycles during the summer and hit a little tavern up in Walden.
I had more fun with a local gal up there than fishing has ever given me aaah but that was then and this is now!

General Discussion / Re: Crane Creek Missouri?
« on: September 23, 2014, 05:35:16 PM »
You'll never believe this but just east of Crane there is an area called Highland Village (just north of Galena Mo.) where this work buddy of mine back in the 70's had a weekend trailer home and when we were working a long project over in Springfield we would drive down and stay there on the weekends. His son who lived there loved to fish a creek over there called I think Finley Creek.  Anyways it joined up with Crane Creek, and at a bridge crossing there is where Carl and I put his 16' old town canoe in and we did an all day and I mean all day drift down to this old golf course out there in the sticks somewhere. I never saw so many 'bows and browns in my life.  Gravel bars with riffles everywhere. We were using spinning rods with meps spinners and 6 lb. test and we could literally catch a fish with every cast around those bars.  When you got into deeper slow water watch out for the small mouth bass the size of overgrown footballs. On one trip one so big hit Carl's spinner it yanked the mono off his filament.  No joke. Never seen anything like it.

Hey why the heck is Tracy's daughter getting married up there. This isn't one of those reality TV weddings shows where everybody is naked, starves, and starts looking for the next challenge card is it? ...Oh or wait is it one of those destination weddings like Brad and Angelina just had...which by the way I HATE FRANCE. Does she have the nerve to get a Game Show Host to do her wedding (I just love that ad...Angelina do you take Brad for your lawfully wedded husband or do you Want what's behind Door Number Three... "IT's A NEEEWWWW CAR!") and there goes Angelina... Love It!

You know this area is great for hunting too.  Yeah it is... go to Crane and start to hunt for a Walmart. Nope not one there.  That ought to tell you something not even a Sonic Drive In jeese louisees. What's a girl going to do?

If you get the chance go over to Galena MO. there is a cafe in town that serves the BEST home grown mountain berry pie you'd ever taste (also available in a clear mason jar). The coffee was delicious too, and from there it is just a short drive over to Butler Hollow where you will find more gravel bars and big bows too. Another place to fish Noland Hollow that is closer to Cane but the river there was super wide and very slow. Big Carp country. I looked in my old address book to see if I still had a number for Carl or his son as Carl is probably long gone. He was thirty years my senior. But No luck there. But dude this area is banjo country if you know what I mean. Heck they don't allow cats to meow after 8:00 PM. Ooops, I just drooled on my keyboard thinking about that MB pie!

Heck the backroads there don't even have numbers like here in TEXAS (FM 1488) they have single letters like Q! Carl said it was a cost saving move...the first graders would hand paint a sign during art class and put it up. No really look it up. It was crazy!  You remember Junior Samples don't you? (HEE HAW Grammy Winner 1972 and renowned Wormdrowner impersonator) Well his brother Ample Samples (BR 548) was laid to rest somewhere around of McChord's Bend. (See US Government Hazardous Waste Site #13). Haven't been back since way back when but had a boatload of fun when I was there. Congrats to the young lady and get some of that pie to the wedding.

HAVE FUN I DID!

Notice To ALL:
BAJA CALIFORNIA JUST GOT WIPED OUT. CABO'S AIRPORT WAS ALMOST LEVELED. I SAW THE NEWS THIS MORNING AND IT WAS NOT GOOD. OLD RUSTY ROOFS, AND CHICKEN COOPS WERE EVERYWHERE. THE HOTELS WERE DEVASTATED! THAT HURRICANE TOOK DEAD AIM AND WON! I WOULDN'T EXPECT ANY OF THE LOCAL OUTFITTERS WERE ABLE TO PROTECT THEIR OPERATIONS. 125 MPH WINDS FOR SIX HOURS! LOOKED LIKE GALVESTON ONLY WORSE.

TRIPS COULD BE CHEAP NEXT YEAR IF ANY ONE OF THE OUTFITTERS IS ABLE TO OPERATE.

About You / Re: Recently moved here

Darth may I suggest since you have some available time to fish you look back in our archives and check out White Oak Bayou. Typically you will find some really good fishing down there and it is not a far drive at all. There are a few lakes also near by the bayou if you have a kayak or float boat that can be real fun too.

As the others have said come look us up for one of our great meetings, bring the family and let us know you are there.

Hint to the wise...start shopping for your saltwater poling skiff...jus say'n! ;D ;D ;D

Yeah who wouldn't... I know the ball was started to roll sometime ago but other than some recent info from Skip I have seen nothing going on. I'll call Quigley and see if this is something he's handling.

You want to go???? From my last discussion with Skip regarding the Calcasieu Flyfishing Club was they could put together a joint trip. So I am hoping we hear more about it.

I know several of us have talked about going over later in the year (Jan-Feb) taking our own boats and doing a trip to the marsh south of NOLA for the big bulls.  But this trip could be fun too.

Bulled-up tides were already predicted for this weekend. I called CC guide friend and asked about the PINS and she said this time of year it is always a flip of the coin.  You go and fish when you can and hunker down when you have to. She said the winds on Sunday were expected to be light and from the northeast. The water by her report was still in good shape.

Hopefully next month will be better. Better chance for a shorerunning Tarpon! Maybe on Sunday after the Rodeo we can venture down and have a shot.

So tell us about the women! Anyone can catch a trout! But a Hun...well now. So why did Genghis Khan leave if the fishing was so good...was he really in search of a grill?

Looks like you had a blast. Something to treasure for the rest of your life. Great photos and report. Hopefully we can get you and Mike to give us a full tour of the trip.

Last report a month old...what is going on.  How many of them are going, for how long are they fishing, if we go where are we staying, is there anybody from our guys going? George this is your neck of the woods. I saw that Skip put the word out. If we go are we to stay at the rod and gun club on the lake?  Kinda expensive.  CFC guys putting us up? ANYONE GOING?????

Alex that's because he's watching Chita Johnson and not Listening to what she is saying.  :o  DOUGH  ;D and by waiting for tomorrow you'd have already missed fishing today!

Here is the Bob Hall Pier Report for this day:

FRIDAY SURF REPORT 9/12/14 9:30 AM

Surf is very small this beautiful Friday morning, wind is blowing 5-10mph and will pick up as the day moves along. Perfect day for fishing, stand up paddling, or kayaking. See attachment!

I'm betting this is going to be a beautiful weekend down on Padre. Tarpon cruising the second gut, king fish feeding on the menhaden in the first gut. ...and all of the Sargassum weed miraculously disappears.

Heck This front is so weak it will never make it down that far...it still hasn't made it here and it was supposed to by 10:00am. HA! South of Corpus NEVER.

...and who the heck woke you up Alex! First post on our website in let me see ...man my watch doesn't go back that far! You thinking of fishing sometime during the rest of the year Alex?  Huh? You going to the Redfish Rodeo...hope so.

The trip down the PINS is supposed to be an adventure..Oh well hope things are better later in the year for you adventurers...might as well shorten your gear list if your not going to use the stuff.

Outing Chat / Re: new fishing guide

I find it ironic that all of these Texas guides are now fishing Louisiana especially during the winter ("Big Bull) months. Something I am sure hasn't gone unnoticed by the LA guides.  Bet the temporary license fees go up as well as guide certification costs.  Let's see how many Texas guides will take their clients over there during the off months (April - September)...er none! Even the south Texas guides are jumping on the band wagon.  Why not easier to catch a big dumb bull than a smart-ass trout!

I have already heard of a few Texas guide trucks getting "sweetened" last year at the ramps. BORDER WARS!
