General Discussion / Re: I have cabin fever bad!!!

Ive been using a Scott STS 8wt for the past two years. No problems.  Dan you need to be able to throw more than 60' with a 10wt. that third gut is a little farther from the Whataburger than 60 feet.

I've got a Scott S3S 8wt that I like.

I was sort of looking for a TFO TiCRX for the jetties and longer distance casts (like for permit when I'm in Key West in August) and Jim at FTU said they didn't have it and asked if I'd cast the Tidal. I said "no" and we went out back to cast and damned if that thing wasn't a cannon. But it loaded pretty well with just a little line out too.

My other 10wt is a Mangrove and in LA this year there were a number of shots I just couldn't hit because the reds were really spooky and we had to really bomb out some casts so we rigged up Null's TiCRX 10wt (might have been a 9) and I really liked it. I was able to connect on some long distance shots.

I feel like the Mangrove sort of buckles when you try and go past 60' but the TiCRX handles that easily and so does the Tidal.

Family time in Galveston this weekend but I'm wading the surf if these conditions hold like they're supposed to. Hopefully I'll have some pics.

Gonna test out my new Scott Tidal 10wt. I went in to FTU to get a couple odds & ends and cast the Tidal. It's just parking lot casting but that thing is awesome. It was easily picking up 60' of line off the ground and make my backcast. Looking forward to putting it through its paces in the surf this weekend.

Oh, and I'm heading to Florida next week to chase some poon near Apalachicola.

I can't read that sign but I'm 99% certain it's specifically referring to trespass on unauthorized vehicles.

I need to head over there ASAP. Those little bitty baby bream & bass from 2012 are growing up fast.

Might want to make this a catfishing tournament because that water is gonna be so fresh there won't be a red or trout around for miles.

I tried to fish the ponds a couple months ago but there was a sign on the gate off the road that said "NO TRESPASSING. FINE UP TO $4000 AND UP TO A YEAR IN JAIL." It scared me off. Do y'all know what that's about? Ever had any sort of problems?

Where were the signs? I haven't been out there in a while but there are a couple of spots which are sort of default parking areas, right off W. Little York & Hollister by that stop & rob store and another one further east down W. Little York towards Langfield. All the signs I saw were set further back and just said unauthorized motor vehicles were prohibited- basically don't drive on the levees. Every time I've been to the ponds there have been people walking around for exercise and almost always somebody else fishing.

Y'all have fun, I'm gonna be tarpon fishing in Florida those days.  8)

Graham- if you're going Sunday to the ponds, give me a call. I need to get bit and can probably sneak out for a few hours.

Graham Cracker- in the 3+ years I've known you I've never seen you put that rig in the water. It's been under repair the entire time. ;)

General Discussion / My favorite fish caught so far in 2015

Not a big fish but my favorite thus far in 2015.

Too my 4-year old, Brady, to a neighborhood pond for his first fly casting lesson- caught a bunch of blue gills and a couple green sunfish.

Now I know where the name "Big Ugly" came from!  ;D

Don't be hateful just because those fish are longer than you are tall. ;)

Going back.....   very, very soon.....

Guide got a 9.8 lb 31.5 inch trout about 15 yards from me. I got a lot trout but no wall hanger. on orange large skitter walk.

This is one thing which has always burned me up with gear-chunking guides. I'm not paying them to fish and catch a trout like that. I'm paying them for their knowledge, expertise, and to get educated.

I'm tentative on this. Just signed my 4-year old up for soccer and the 11th is his first game so if it's early enough we'll try to make it out afterwards. I've been roped into coaching. Don't laugh, I played a lot of soccer growing up and even earned 2 varsity letters in high school.

I've decided it's time to start teaching him the path of enlightenment and this is a perfect event.
