Outing Chat / Re: White Oak Monday or Tuesday?

I have to work tomorrow, or I would join you.

Puck

This. >:(

I'm booked for the 16th & 17th with a colleague from the office. We'll drive over on the afternoon of the 15th, fish Sunday & Monday (16-17) and drive home Monday evening.

I'm stoked.

Golden- I'm down. Per Scott though, that $600 per day for 2-days isn't $600 per person. It's $600 for 2-people on the boat and that includes their lodging so it's really only $300 per person per day.

But most likely I'll need it to be in February some time. Probably sometime between the 9th & 22nd. I'm going to be in Miami in late January and have a trip booked there. I tried to make it 2 full days fishing but the rib put the kibosh on that.

Outing Information Only / Louisiana trip w/ Scott Null- anybody interested?
« on: November 11, 2013, 03:50:37 PM »
So a colleague of mine and I fished with Scott Null on Friday 11/8 in the Galveston area (I'll post a separate report- it was a tough day though but we weren't skunked) and he let me know that in January & February he's got it lined up so that he'll be guiding out of Grand Isle and over to Port Fourchon where you can get shots at some big ol' bull reds.

Here's what he told me:
Quote
I will offer full day trips only at $650 for one or two anglers.  That includes fishing and lodging.  It will be $600 per day if booking two or more consecutive days.  I'll have to clean up and wash sheets, etc between parties so I figure if I can get folks to stay a couple days or more it'll make my life easier.  Plan to arrive the evening before the trip and depart following the trip unless I happen to have an open date the day after your trip in which case you are welcome to stay over and leave the following day.  Also, there are a few hotels in the area if needed and at that time of year they should have plenty of vacancy.

I'm just starting to book dates so it is fairly open at this point.

Anybody down for a couple days on the water in January/February?

I might have to bail. I thought my flight got home at 5:30 Friday but it actually leaves at 5:30 and I won't get home until almost midnight.

I'm in. Plans cleared up. If somebody needs to borrow a kayak I've got 2.

Excellent pics. I don't know if I can swing it but I'm ready to go back in November.

Puck- had a great time and excellent to meet some folks I hadn't had the pleasure of meeting before. My shoulder and elbow are seriously sore from casting in that wind and catching all those small fish. I swear, at once stretch I caught ladyfish on like 20 consecutive casts.

With the malfunction of the sleeping gear and the rough conditions we decided to high-tail it back to Houston. I was so bushed I slept until 10AM on Sunday.

I've camped on the beach before but you always learn new lessons:
1) go with the tent-cot
2) have a way to brush the sand off your feet before turning in
3) cooking on the beach is overrated- a cooler full of sandwiches is more than adequate

Weather looks to be clearing up nicely for Friday & Saturday. A little blustery Saturday evening but only a 20% chance of rain on Friday & Saturday.

I do have a spare 12 wt sink tip. If Bob can get reel and backing he would be in business.

Joe

He's riding down with me so I'm sure we can figure it out. ;)

Bob: I have an Okuma Sierra 10/11wt that I don't use. It needs line & backing but you're welcome to use it. It would probably handle 12wt line in a pinch, just not with quite as much backing.

Puck- can you PM me your phone # so I can get in touch on Friday?

Bob & dunkingmidget- can you fellas do the same? I'll PM you my contact info shortly. I'm gonna try to make Tuesday's meeting before the trip but if I can't we can coordinate.

And to answer the questions, my truck bed is open without a cover. I'll have camping gear in big, Rubber-Maid bins. I'm also going to jerry-rig up a rod-rack for driving on the beach and if we need it on the drive down and we'll be good. If it's just 2 or 3 of us and we don't all try to bring the kitchen sink we can put some stuff in the bed and the back-seat too.

I think the earliest I can leave would be about 3 on Friday. That would hopefully put us down near the entrance of PINS around 6:30-7. If we've got a solid fix on where the others will be set up and the beach conditions aren't too dicey I'm pretty comfortable driving down the beach at night to meet up with everybody.

Looks like I have to back out on this one. My father asked me to help him with some stuff and it has to get done this weekend.

I was really looking forward to this trip. I may have to make a solo trip there in October.

Google maps says it's 2 hours 50 minutes from my house which means it's really 2:20-2:30. I think I'll enjoy my own bed and roll out between 4-4:30 Saturday AM. Forecast says 70% chance of rain on Friday and 40% on Saturday- hopefully that holds off some.

FYI- I plan on bringing one each of 6, 8, 10, and 12wt rigs.

I figure the 6 will be good if we get into ladyfish. The 8 is more likely a back-up. And the 10 & 12 will target jacks & tarpon (Lord willing). I'll also have a couple conventional combos in case the wind is bad. Definitely going to be loaded for bear.
