I brought about 80 flies and only used 2.

Two croaker caught on a coyote, and 2 more on a redfish crack.

Protected from the wind.  The water was slightly off-color, but fish were caught.

Excitement at the launch area.

By the time the main group showed up Mike F. was on the water looking for the early birds.  You know, the ones that said they would be on the water at 0600.

The casting game on the last gathering was the in-air mend.

No competition.

I have no idea what Chris and Adam have planned for the next gathering.

Here are some links, with the comparison.

Land route = 122 miles, 2hrs 2 minutes

Ferry = 99.2 miles, 2hr, 19 minutes

More miles, but less traffic, and wait time.

Launch point

This takes you to Google (R) maps.  Use this to find directions.

For first timers to the area, I'd recommend staying in Jasper, Tx, and make the trip early in the morning to the launch site.

There are places to camp, but these take a little more gear, and planning.

Which way is faster?

If leaving from Katy, and you get directly onto the ferry, with no wait, the ferry is 5 minutes faster.

Factor in the ferry wait time and we may see you Sunday.

No Ferry for me.

Does anyone in the "Katy Navy" want to carpool down there?

I've got Bob S. riding with me.  Want to throw the barge on the trailer?

Sunrise is at 0652.

360° Light would be required if we launch before then.

Meeting up at 0600 and getting ready to launch at 0652 sounds like a good plan.

Keeping an eye out for the weather.

50% chance of lightning shown for Saturday as I type this.  I can get rained on all day, but have an aversion to getting electicuted.

Do we have a back-up plan?

Next step...   Fly rod...    ;).

I've never hooked a tarpon, but plan to one day.

Looks like some Mike Arnold "stuff" in there.

Joe

I do believe that you are correct!

Mike Arnold did supply some of the flies in that box.

And this one is full of just a bunch of junk that I should give away to a nerdy, I mean needy, fly angler?

Can you tell I've been trying to organize?
