Seems like the might do the trick:

I appreciate the effort, but these guys start at 6 wt.  :(

We still need a 4 wt.  And that is the challenge.....

General Discussion / Warm weather fly line?
« on: January 11, 2015, 11:56:40 AM »
Nilo won a 4wt at the Christmas party, and I've complemented it with a TFO BVK(R) reel, but am at a loss as to what line to put onto her new outfit.

I see a ton of trout lines, designed for cold water, but no warm-water specific lines.

And no, she is not giving up on her bright pink Dogwood Canyon (R) outfit.

Responses appreciated,

What strain of trout are we looking at this year?

The rooms are reserved!

6 spots are still open.

As of today, 2015-01-09, we still have 6 open bunks.

I am still willing to video.

Where is Alan?  ( Really want to capture him tying that sheephead crab! )

And anybody else willing to sit for a session, before the DERFTF?

Tying Chat / Re: Fun new material, fly 5

Fly 5

That was the result of reversing the material on the hook then folding it back over after tying in the the tailing.  I didn't like the result, so I only did it the one time.

The ends frayed so badly that I lost half of the tubing fibers.

Reverse Green weenie based on the pattern from Greg Berlocher's book.

Some of you may even know the tier that Greg talked into sharing the pattern...... ;)

Texas Saltwater Classics: Fly Patterns for the Texas Coast

ISBN-10: 0929980190
ISBN-13: 978-0929980195

Size 4-8 saltwater hook, darker is better
Black size "A" rod wrapping thread (280 denier)
Lead dumbell eyes, sized to match hook
Rubber band, any color (underbody)
Died olive barred hackle
Black rabbit dubbing
CA glue

The SRA phone recording is not updated on the weekends, but the website ( is.

Cell phone reception is spotty at the fishing location, and actually getting a web page to load on a smart phone is going to be a challenge.

I am hoping to hit Spring Creek in kayaks on this date.

Weather permitting it could be the absolute best fishing day of the year (Stupor Brawl Sundae)

Nobody will be on the water, and the white bass should have begun their run by then.

Back-up plan in place for the 18th.

Lesson learned from 2014 is to have the back-up plan in place long before it is needed.

Northern Pike (Esox Lucius) in the Boundary Waters, or Chain Pickerel (Esox niger) in our local waters.

We will be targeting sheepshead, white bass, and black bass shortly.

All take different flies.

Everybody has their favorites.

Ready to get on the water?
