Folks,

We have a place to hang out for this trip.

Crawford P. has a place let than 4 miles from where we will be fishing.  He has a place on Indian Creek at Toledo Bend, and is willing to let a few of us camp at his place.  He is also willing to loan his canoe to one of us that asks nicely.

Sign up, and let us get a head count.  As of right now (2014-09-09-1600) there are only 2 signed up.

A fish fry on Friday night, or fishing Indian Creek,  is the choice of plans as I write this.

Rattlemullet has a great list.

I also have most of the stuff he has listed, and I think I'd like to modify mine to match his format.

Belly boat will work fine at the event, but if you want to try other parts of the river, I'd recommend a canoe, and a partner.

Found this left behind    :(

A couple of things were discussed at the KNFT, 2014-08-26, related to this trip.

1.   Safety equipment:
           a.   Who is carrying what?  We can list safety gear here on the forum, with a printed sheet handed to the vehicle drivers at the Malachite meeting point.

2.   VHF radios.
           a.   Having on VHF radio per fishing group will make sure that id we find fish, we can let the others know what we see.
           b.   It also will let us know if somebody is in trouble, or we see some potentially soft spots in the sand.
           c.    We may also have a group that will show up on Saturday to join up.  VHF on the right frequency will allow them to contact the main group.

3.   Meals
           a.   Friday night we eat out of a can, or cook fresh fish.  Bring food!  Don’t rely on catching fish to be your only option for dinner.  I will bring a stove and an iron skillet, along with oil.  I’ll ask somebody else to bring seasonings.  Campfires are allowed right now (no burn ban), and we plan to have a fire pit for the evening.
           b.   Saturday night will be a group meal.  Nothing is locked yet.  The last couple of years MK and Skip have worked hard on this one, and brought way too much food.  Let us see if we can keep it simple, yet enjoy a decent meal together.  Suggestions are appreciated.

4.   Rod weights
           a.   I use 8wts most of the time, but at least one of the group wants to through 8”+ streamers in the hopes of a monster, using a 10wt.

5.   Fly lines
           a.   Leave the floating lines at home.  In the surf, you’ll wear them more than you’ll cast them.  The waves take a floating line wherever it want to.
           b.   Intermediate lines seem to be a preferred favorite for most
           c.   I, once again, seem to be the odd man out.  I prefer full sink lines for the surf.

6.   Tires
           a.   Conventional wisdom is to let your tire pressure down to be able to move on the sand.  I’ll bring a small DC compressor, but hope to never have to use it.
           b.   2 cans of “Fix-a-flat” will be part of my safety gear.  I’d suggest that other drivers do the same.

7.   Meet point and travel time
           a.   Meet-up at Malachite at 2014-09-12-1100 (Friday, the 12th of September, 2014 at 11:00am)
           b.   Transload and get ready to travel no later than 1130.  Low tide is at about 1130, so travelling down the beach will be good for a few hours, allowing us to get to about MM 30+ before the tide takes the beach.
                      i.   With the VHF radios we may be able to stage our travels with the lead group finding any trouble spots.

Fellow adventurers,

I am in the process of setting up my GPS sending  unit, “Finder”,for this PINS trip.

If you want me to be able to send a message back using my GPS, or you are not on the group going down-range on Friday, send me (vie PM, or e-mail) your cell phone number and carrier, along with the e-mail.

I’ll try to do a message test during the first week of September.

This was an adventure.

We had 2 early launches, and I haven't talked to them yet to see how they did.

I got lost trying to find the launch site.  Google maps had it wrong.  I now have it as POI in 2 GPSs.  I was not the only one to be late thanks to our reliance on modern electronics.

John and Joe were on the water by the time I got my act together.

Since I brought the HAI I was able to tow Tom and Will to the marsh.  During the tow, I was able to convince Will to use the HAI for a while.  I wish I would have taken a video of that.  He was all over the place, and fast.

The water quality at the marsh was not a good as we needed it to be for flies. The wind picked up, and about noon we tried to make it back.  I attempted to tow Tom and Will back, not very successfully :(

By 1300 I called John to let him know I was off the water and headed home.

If you have stories to add to this, please do.

I only took a few pictures, and one decent video.  I'll work on those as part of this post later.
