:)  A wonderful vice an have been tying up some bass flies and trout and Red flies.   I'm enjoying the fun of tying... Good luck next weekend in the Red Fish Rodeo...I have fished Rockport when a teenager, I was raised in Victoria an fished up in down the coast a lot. I crew up in San Antonio Bay as a kid, on popping cork and shrimp...back then the trout size had to be over ten inches no limit, Uncle and I would start just before Sun up, and by the 10:30, we would have two large ice chest full of trout. This is the reason why we have limits and  sizes today.  Back then didn't know better---but now it's a different story...only take what I need for dinner...or a fish fry which isn't to often.  I have really gotten serious about fly fishing.  I think Denver, Idaho, and New Mexico had spoiled me... I will never say don't get a guide...anymore,  on rivers wading or float trips. I have learned so much from them.  Never knew how much more you need to know about Fly Fishing.,...compared to conventional casting which I like too.  I will sign up for casting lessons this year an hope by summer I will be able to compete  with the pros...  'GET THE NET IV...

Outing Chat / POC BIG REDS
« on: October 19, 2013, 12:05:20 PM »
When down last weekend to fish with conventional rod and reels. For big reds.... We usually catch five or six big reds on a trip, but only caught one about 25-30lbs on a jig with gulp. I need someone to help me catch a big red like this on a fly rod...any takers.. I know were to find them but the only draw back is that they are in15/ 30ft or so of water..

Tales For 2012 / Find the Perch
« on: October 19, 2013, 07:59:29 AM »
I wanted to do some fly fishing in Port Lavaca, TX.. found a park off main drag with a pond.. Did catch any bass figure they were all caught out since it was a park... I started with a hopper that I used in Denver for trout... It worked, the perch loved it...See if you can find the perch in photo... all of them were this sizes.. should be monsters next year if they are not all caught.

Tales For 2012 / Re: Attacked by an Allagater Gar
« on: October 19, 2013, 07:53:02 AM »
Way back when, I went to a friends Grandmas' home in York Town,TX to fly fish on York Creek that ran thru her property... We caught all the above including gars on fly rod...was a blast.  To top this off was Grandmas' cooking--never had cornmeal fried chicken with smashed potatoes and gravy. So good..!! Nothing like old country cooking an friendship... Nice Pictures and story.

About You / Re: Colorado Boy Learning the Texas Ways
« on: September 28, 2013, 07:16:50 PM »
Welcome... I just finish working a job in Denver over a two years of learning how to fly fish the streams and rivers around Denver area. Really got a workout.. Decker, Blue River, South Platte in Littleton.  I have a 22.5 Shallow Sport with a casting deck in front for both fly fishing and bait casting .  I'm learning to improve my fly casting and catch more... I have been a bass pro for fisherman for fourteen years and grew up on the Texas coast know alot of saltwater fishing places... I call anything over 5 feet of water is deep..My favorit bait casting lures is the She Dog (top water) and Mirrow Lure( jerk bait) and some plastics.  Be happy to show you some bait casting too.  good to know all types of fishing.
