:)  My first flounder on my own fly....Pinks Shimp !!Whoooie Whooie....That I tied todays ago... So far all the flies I've made, works..! (Not bragging) in freshwater and saltwater.  It's a good confidence catching fish with your own!!... Soooooo! much fun!   Justin and I fished Christmas Bay Saturday it was a blow out.   Waders fishing --nothing caught,,, we drift almost an hour an caught nothing --winds were 15 to 20 not good on a day after a front in all my fishing experances. Caught this flounder in Chocolate Bayue Sunday wading off a windy points with Joe and Bran,,,Mike Q have to do a trounament here in the fall, because it's windy friendly, if coming from North or South..always places to fish out of wind..Go up the bayou or back around the pond on northeast side. A lot of shell and some wading, but mostly boggie.. Ready for the next one!! "GET THE NET IV"..

Outing Chat / Pond Fishing for Bass& Perch
« on: March 02, 2014, 07:48:45 PM »
:'(  I carry my fly fishing gear with me all the time in case I see a place that looks like it will hold bass and perch. I have found over the years of  fishing for these guys live in same condition in most ponds... A bass and perch must have structure to live in... I have notice the ponds around the housing areas and even the park ponds don't have any structure at all in these ponds, People wonder why there no fish in them or why the fish don't grow.. This is the #1 structure no fish... Fish must have a place to live, I mean minnow, crawfish, catfish, bass, and perch.  Without structure no food chain will grow....  So. Whoever is in charge of Park ponds in housing areas please put some lay down dead trees, rocks and a little moss along the banks and even some in deeper water... In a year the difference will show.  I will post some pictures of a healthy pond just with a little of plants and some moss along the banks..

Outing Chat / Fishing Sargent Tomorrow

:)  I'm have the boat ready and I will be going down this afternoon to Sargent to fish the tournament this weekend.  I live in Alvin, if any one wants to ride I will be happy to visit.  I will take the boat, if anyone wants to ride to a fishing spot I can only carry four people...but you will have to wade... I don;t mind drift fishing but I think wading is best.  call 713-816-0884  I will leave Alvin around 16:30 today, will eat Chilly also.

:)  A wonderful vice an have been tying up some bass flies and trout and Red flies.   I'm enjoying the fun of tying... Good luck next weekend in the Red Fish Rodeo...I have fished Rockport when a teenager, I was raised in Victoria an fished up in down the coast a lot. I crew up in San Antonio Bay as a kid, on popping cork and shrimp...back then the trout size had to be over ten inches no limit, Uncle and I would start just before Sun up, and by the 10:30, we would have two large ice chest full of trout. This is the reason why we have limits and  sizes today.  Back then didn't know better---but now it's a different story...only take what I need for dinner...or a fish fry which isn't to often.  I have really gotten serious about fly fishing.  I think Denver, Idaho, and New Mexico had spoiled me... I will never say don't get a guide...anymore,  on rivers wading or float trips. I have learned so much from them.  Never knew how much more you need to know about Fly Fishing.,...compared to conventional casting which I like too.  I will sign up for casting lessons this year an hope by summer I will be able to compete  with the pros...  'GET THE NET IV...

Outing Chat / POC BIG REDS
« on: October 19, 2013, 12:05:20 PM »
When down last weekend to fish with conventional rod and reels. For big reds.... We usually catch five or six big reds on a trip, but only caught one about 25-30lbs on a jig with gulp. I need someone to help me catch a big red like this on a fly rod...any takers.. I know were to find them but the only draw back is that they are in15/ 30ft or so of water..

« on: October 19, 2013, 07:59:29 AM »
I wanted to do some fly fishing in Port Lavaca, TX.. found a park off main drag with a pond.. Did catch any bass figure they were all caught out since it was a park... I started with a hopper that I used in Denver for trout... It worked, the perch loved it...See if you can find the perch in photo... all of them were this sizes.. should be monsters next year if they are not all caught.

About You / Home for good...

:)  I'm done working in Denver and will miss the great fly fishing there.. I didn't get to fish it all, but did had fun trying.. Ready to get serious with the club and learn more about casting and tying flies.  People, I have a 22ft Shallow Sport and know one to go fishing with... I'm not allowed to go fishing a lone anymore according to my wife...My retired fishing buddy went fishing by himself during the week... Slipped on the boat ramp while unloading his boat. Fell broke some ribs and knocked himself out. This happen at Horse Shoe Bend in Liver Pool,,no one was around to help him at the time..So when he awoke, he put the boat back on trailer and drove himself to E.R. for treatment. So from then on, he is grounded from going fishing alone again.  When my wife found out about this... Need, I say any more....I will furnished the boat to get some lessons on fly fishing on the water. I do wade and drift or run trolling motor in shallows. I plan to retire in June 2014.. Call if interested...713-816-0884. Don Hanselman.
