Outing Chat / ABC Tourament in POC
« on: June 23, 2014, 08:00:36 AM »
Fished ABC Trounament this weekend at POC,.,We won 3rd place with ten trout 26.88lbs.. all caught on croakers.. I tried fly fishing on shallows but no cigar...

I want to plan a fishing trip to Venice LA for four days... Fish two and half days and come home on fourth Oct.. I will take my boat -Need NO Fishin Guide,, I have fished in Sept and Nov in Yellow Cotton Bay  twice. Without a guide --marsh lands in 3 to four feet of water.. Three of us went an left Houston around 4am and arrived at lunch time.. Got the our room unload an hit  the water around 1pm and fished dark caught a least  150 trout and five or six reds. all on Mirrow Lures- Silver/Char- She Dog Top Water...   We fished  to dark, got clean up, get something to eat and get ready for more fun the next day.  I didn't  fly fish at the time, but would be a blast...Cannot wade to boggie--Excellent Yak fishing to but it's bit of ride to get the Yaks to the spot..  I can carry two Yaks an people on my boat if enterested. Well protected area from winds. alot of reefs and greass.   :)  Like to plan now who is going can do resarch on the area. Google Earth shows in detail of fishing area... If you want to hire a guide do so on your own.. The fishing is excellent unless it has changed sence I have been down...over ten  They have some excellent seafood places to eat in LA..

Here is a video of Yak fishing under Galveston Causeway at night... I have done this many times out of my boat, chucking Mirrowdyns into the lights and caught limit in a hour.. I will be going to do this with my fly rod.. any takers call me 713-816-0884,  after I retire on 27th June...So get ready...The lights on all pylons but only a few are "ON" --When the causeway was new all the lights were "ON" an you could fish more freely...Now you have to get on you spot Sun down or go early in 1 to 2 am...and fish to Sun rise...

The best bite is on a slow out going tide...with light winds, not good on a ripping tide...and windy... Good in winter also..
It's going to get hot soon an the fishing slow down during day.  But excellent under lights at night..  Checkout website..

General Discussion / Fly Fishing in a Pravate Pond
« on: May 19, 2014, 08:48:12 AM »
:)  I was invited out to a private pond to fly fish for bass and perch..little did I realized they're were catfish in this pond too... I started out with a 5wt fly rod and after the third break off. I went and got my 8wt. rod with a 15lbs test tippet..  Tied on another whoolley bugger an as soon as the lure sunk about a foot the line rips off again, but this time he didn't get away...Full meter was pegged...

« on: April 11, 2014, 10:24:11 AM »
:)  OK> for fly fishing for the bull reds and big jackcarvelle at the Jetties... I have a 10wt rod and a big reel..I know how to catch these Bull Reds on conventional..but I would like to learn how to catch them on fly rod , twenty pound plus reds and Jacks.  I have caught them in 5 to 15 of water along jetties...So, what do I use for tippet an what flies to use... I will be happy to take any of you pros with me and show you were these big reds  are if you show me how to catch them...with a fly... These bull red are like a bull, when they run , they will give you a workout... so will the Jacks...   One of things on my bucket list...!!

:) The black popper did the trick early-7am - 9am,,,Present the popper two feet from moss on the banks ,,let set for a second or two an look for the V wave coming from the bank and then hang on. Known stop until around 9am when the front moving in with stronger winds..

Mike, I put my card on you door bell sign when I left,  one fish was not 22" inches, more like 18", here is the  photos of Popper I used  to catch these from the northeast side of Duck Pond the mouth of it.. next to pier.  I really have improved my casting thanks to You Tube videos.  I will still take lesson on meeting nights. Thanks for a great time...GTN

« on: April 01, 2014, 04:49:56 AM »
My first flounder on my own fly....Pinks Shimp !!Whoooie Whooie....That I tied todays ago... So far all the flies I've made, works..! (Not bragging) in freshwater and saltwater.  It's a good confidence catching fish with your own!!... Soooooo! much fun!   Justin and I fished Christmas Bay Saturday it was a blow out.   Waders fishing --nothing caught,,, we drift almost an hour an caught nothing --winds were 15 to 20 not good on a day after a front in all my fishing experances. Caught this flounder in Chocolate Bayue Sunday wading off a windy points with Joe and Bran,,,Mike Q have to do a trounament here in the fall, because it's windy friendly, if coming from North or South..always places to fish out of wind..Go up the bayou or back around the pond on northeast side. A lot of shell and some wading, but mostly boggie.. Ready for the next one!! "GET THE NET IV"..
