Outing Chat / Jardines de la Reina in Cuba
« on: March 01, 2012, 07:00:41 PM »
Mike Siegman ask me  to pass this along;

'Anybody interested in a trip to fish the Jardines de la Reina in Cuba? This is an amazing place to fly fish for tarpon, bonefish, permit and just about everyhting else (imagine the Flaoriday keys without any people). I'm heading down with a group fishing about the Halcon (mothership) from May 5th to 11th and there are a couple of spots available. Give me a call (Mike, 9073174284) to discuss. Remember there are not issues with nationality.'

Listed in WindKnots Outings for March 2006.

Something I haven't seen mentioned and Scott F did several years ago. The outing was to Greens Lake.  Put in point was near Tiki Island and kayaks were daisy chained and towed the 7 miles to Greens Lake. As I remember, worked quite well.

It is on a 4 CD set called "Papa Was A Fishin' Man" by 'Worlds Greatest Fishing Band'. Vocal by Gary Shiebler.
Throw iTunes out the window.

Cut an past this into your Google search bar. Mine returned 24 hits  and told me they have a web presence on 'My Space'.
"My Space" OR "C D Baby" OR Reverbnation "Papa Was A Fishin Man"

And if you can wait until April 14, The club will have their annual fund raising auction. During the silent auction a couple years ago, I saw brand  new $300 rods sold for $13.00.

My suggestion is to go to Orvis or Bass Pro and look at their  kits. They start around $100 and contain everything you need in the way of tackle except flies.  This will let you get your feet wet.

The club has DVDs we library out to help teach. The club also has a Fly Fishing Academy that starts out as if you don't know what a fly rod looks like and ends with you having enough knowledge to ask the right questions when you go to buy.
