General Discussion / Cache la Poudre River and North Platte in July 2014
« on: September 09, 2014, 07:37:50 PM »
I fished one day wading in the Cache la Poudre River at Fort Collins, Co via St. Peters Fly Shop guides and one day float trip on the North Platte in Wyoming. Was originally to fish the Encampment River but guide felt the N Platte was best. I did catch some fish and this was on my bucket list. First trip was June 30th and second July 1st.

We returned home from Riverside, Wy via the Snowy Range going north to Larimie.

Check your fluid and bleed the cyclinders. Maybe air.

Just guessing.

Louisiana has resiprosity with Texas for fishing license if you are over 65. So you do not need La license.

Fished East Matty with Mike Frankoff and his son Jared. Had great time fishing them in their Hellsbay Waterman. We did not hook up. Saw very few reds with no legitimate shots.  Had a nice at least 15mph in your face, cast killing wind all day. The bay looked like chocolate milk but some clear areas on south shoreline.

General Discussion / Re: TFF 2014 Auction Huge Success
« on: May 04, 2014, 06:02:13 PM »
I second all of the above. I had a great time. The live auction is like watching live entertainment. Guys bidding for trips that they are going to share and bidding against each other. Guys buying their own donated trips! Watching repeat winners of raffles that surely should be going to Vegas with that kind of luck. Not much public attendance with majority of bidding done by members. Reminder me of the saying" Preaching to the choir". I got a "Mothers Day Gift" and my wife loves the butterfly fly in bell glass. What a resource the club is for members. I got Joe Nicklo to scout out some of Dr Rizzlo's fly's for my trip to Colorado. Thank you Joe Nicklo. I was able to pump Marcos for input on rigging a 10wt to use on poling skiff in Louisiana. Watched Adam Domiguez show his amazement over Joe Nicklo's HMG flies. I could go on and I am sure someone else will. If you missed it, then make plans for next year cause it was a hoot.

I want to thank Jack Klinger for the two hose clamps he gave me at 10:30 PM to attach my new primer bulb.

Now not to be out done by Quigley in terms of added drama to trip... here goes. I left Sugar Land at 3:00 PM thinking would be plenty of time to get SS at Wadsworth and run at storage shed to make sure she was  a go. Last time I used boat was October with trip with Don Hanselman. Well... the primer bulb would not work and believe me I pumped on that for awhile. Thought I might have not filled tank so off to gas station in Wadsworth. Exxon is out of gas so go down to Shell.  Got 1 gallon in and she is full so lack of gas not the problem. I pull next door to Shell and call my mechanic who lives in Wadsworth and he is in Bay City and can't help. So I am thinking 3 guys may not have a ride!! So pulling out of lot onto Hwy 60, ...I drop one wheel of trailer off a culvert and my truck is fully in Hwy 60. Get out look.. first I thought I had broken axle, but no, just dropped into ditch. I am thinking wrecker time. Got in truck and backed up and luckily trailer came out of ditch but now the truck is about to go into ditch. So I start to drop trailer and young man stopped and asked if I needed help. Yea.... He and I did push the SS back after two very strenuous heave ho's. Now I am panting, dry mouth and thinking heart attack. LOL. Meantime traffic is sailing past my truck still out in Hwy 60. So re hook up trailer and off to Matagorda. First stop is Harbor, closed. Lady did see my try the door and asked what I needed. She had no primer bulbs so off to Stanleys. Yep... had one for mere $30 and glad to pay it. Now back to Jay's Chili joint and arrive at 7:20 PM and ordered a six pack!

Tim and Karen are a hoot. I think Tim is the setup for Karen punch lines.

I saw Puck catch  the pic I posted. Saw Alan get 3 while there. I did not catch one but did see one. Yea, Alan looks like a crane hunting...  just standing and then doing his cross the front backhand cast and nail them. Was worth the trip to see him put on a clinic for sheephead hookups.

Scott B can really cut some zzzz's. I though George fell out of top bunk one time. Puck got up at 5:00 Am. I think that this was similar to Animal House!

I had a great time with Quigley.
