I hope your pooch is doing better day by day Bob.
Regarding the water, I have a job going on in Alvin and I can tell you that area has received a "ship" load of rain in the past month!  The run-off might be a little much for kayaking.

I have never seen those signs either.  But that is not the way I access either. Probably to deter the vehicles from driving around the place. Sunday/Monday are supposed to be the worst weather days of the weekend. I will check out conditions on Saturday morning. Call me for conditions as I won't be on the 'puter.  Bringing the 3 wt. and 5 wt.

General Discussion / PooP Happens!
« on: May 20, 2015, 09:54:52 AM »
So I have a new "I'll never do that again!"  The other day at my office warehouse where I keep a good portion of my fishing gear, I decided to box up my two damaged Sage fly rods to send off for repair.  One an awesome XP - 8 wt and the other a RPLXi 8 wt. that I use for dredging work. I love both of these rods as I guess we all do in one way or another.  They were carefully placed in a plain triangular shipping box stuffed with bubble-wrap and sealed up.  I did this about three weeks ago while gathering up my equipment for the Laguna Trip. So I left them out in the shop in an area where I had my other fishing equipment.

Last week I called FedEx and ordered a pick up for the rods to be sent to Sage. I then went out into the shop and could not find the shipping box anywhere! Here is where the PooP begins to fly!  I noticed how the shop appeared much better organized and cleaner than before my trip. So I asked my son-in-law if he had put the box somewhere.  He said No not really.  So I then did a closer inspection of the warehouse to see where it could be.  Well you've already guessed what happened by now. BOOM two $ 700.00+ investment rods GONE TO THE DUMP-DUMP-DUMP! He had decided to clean up the mess of leftover materials and job junk that was brought back to our warehouse recently from one of our projects.  He said he probably picked up the box shook it and thought it was empty and so he threw it away.

I'll never do that again!  So yesterday I picked up one of the few SAGE XP 8 wts for public consumption off of EBAY.  It had been custom built by a well known rod builder in Wisconsin who put some cool feathers just above the handle too. Yes I know I can only hope he did a great job building the rod!  It looked awesome and had only seen fresh water on a pike trip once. Handle looks brand new.  I can guarantee you'll see me using it soon.

Also an update...the Muy Guapo is at the boat doctors getting refurbished to be ready for the season.  Once I have both the boat and the rod in hand you will know where to find me!

Tight Lines to All!

I will go by this weekend mostly to see if they have cut down the weeds.  If so I will most likely fish the ponds as the bayou will still be in Class 4 condition!  Have you ever seen so much rain.

Was catchin plenty of these before the weather turned bad.

Watched this squall line come racing in...time to go!

No lightening yet but getting a little scary!

Anybody want to raise a flyrod into the air?

Call me if you want to join me. I'll have my watercraft with me too.

Hey Joe thought I would help you with your request.  We are putting on the front-Home page of the website that information monthly.  Look at the left hand column.  It will be Lefty Ray Chapa - he will address fishing photography.  With all of the cool trips you take a year, you can learn how to get the most from your camera so we can actually see your catch! Hope to see you there.

We missed you down on the rio arroyo.  You would have had a blast fishing the lights whil;e sipping a cold one.  Hope to get a bigger group together in September cooler temps hopefully by then too. Maybe we can walk over the island and see the PINS group of TFF'ers.  Now that would be cool.

HUMP DAY .....Just fine with me but their programs need to include casting for prizes & more beer so they don't have to make the mad dash to the store like last week. How about some edibles for the folks too?
Good thing tho...lots of folks showed up for Captain Steve.

Is it just me but haven't their prices gone up substantially? ie., tapered floro leader = $27 bucks ...REALLY?
Seems to me I never paid half that much before.

Heyword's Swan Point Outfitters in Rockport does it right!  Food, Beer, Movie, and Guest Speakers.  That shop is AWESOME.

I smell a Croaker Soaker here in our midst!  Why would anyone go all the way down there and not use a fly rod to potentially catch the largest trout of their lifetime...Joe waz up? You just hungry or something?

Does the two fiddy per day cover the gulp and guide too?

Now Puck the Tournament Rules Committee conducted an investigation of your totals and this is what they found.

1.  Hooked up 7?  :o
Committee:  Puck how many were fish? The Judges observed Oysters, your wading pack, and Quigley's left ear?  ;D
2.  Landed 2?       :o
Committee: You didn't tell everyone here that one of them was a 10" mullet...did you Puck. But NOOOOOO!
3.   Rules Infraction*...biting one's fly rod cork handle.    :o
Committee...really Puck, no nutritional value there! Penalty Imposed - Deduction One fish from your total (luckily for you it was the mullet)

It is important to note, everyone of Puck's fish were as hard of hearing as Puck...they had to be you ever seen a mullet with ears!  ;D  :o   ::)

DOOOOOOOOOOOOO :o

So I just heard from an un-named source that a certain individual in our club launched his/her boat into west bay for a leisure trip which turned out to be a long tow back to the marina pulled by some AGGIES!

Sounds like another candidate for the upcoming Texas Flyfishers Saltwater Skiff/Boat Class this summer.

Learn the necessary steps to get out of the marina and on the water and to return again without those pesky "if I only remembered to check..." problems. Class will include maintenance tips, boat set-up tips, and for skiff owners poling tips.  We have all been there and having a "bad experience" is not the way to learn!  Class will be held in POC over two weekend periods (Fri/Sat/Sun) will include both classroom and on the water training.  Very informative even for the man who knows everything.
