Brazos River Outing 22 May 2010
Bass fishing the Brazos River below Lake Whitney is the next freshwater outing. This isn’t the same muddy Brazos River that we cross in the Houston area. For about two years, the fishing on this stretch of the Brazos has suffered from too much generation by the Army Corps of Engineers, which made it just about unfishable. According to local guide Chris Shafer, the fishing in the past year has really picked up and Richard at Dick’s Canoes says that the fishing has been great.
You will have the opportunity to catch a bass grand slam: largemouth bass, Kentucky spotted bass and smallies – no Guadalupes in this river. Drift down the river, casting close in to the banks, to the brush piles and submerged stumps and branches and to the submerged grass lines. Structure, structure, structure is what it’s all about. While I’m sure the bream fishing is good in here, the greatest attraction is large bass. The record smallie in the river is 7lbs; largemouth over 4 lbs are not uncommon. For you carp chasers, there are plenty of them in the river, but they’re plenty spooky.
See the Brazos Outing Plan for all the details or contact David Lemke if you have any questions.

Trout Fishing the Lower Mountain Fork River is now scheduled for the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th of March 2010
That's right, the Febraury trip is in March. Fish for rainbows and brown trout during a three day outing to the stocked waters of the Lower Mountain Fork River near Broken Bow, Oklahoma. The Lower Mountain Fork River trout fishery has rapidly improved to become one of the top year-round trout destinations in the South. The river supports trout for the first 12 miles below Broken Bow Dam and has produced brown trout weighing over 17 pounds and rainbows weighing over 10 pounds. About 5 miles of this trout area is in the Beavers Bend State Park, offering excellent access.
